#167 - The Bloody Butler - Part Two (Belgravia, London, UK)

This is Part Two of Two of The Bloody Butler.

With their employer on holiday in Scotland, on Saturday 9th August 1969 at 2:30pm, Frank & Victor were seen enjoying a pleasant lunch at Coq Au Vin, a French restaurant at 8 Harriet Street in Knightsbridge. At 3pm, they returned to 69 Eaton Place. With Frank too tired, and with Victor looking to party the night away, he hit the town alone.

Why are his movements that night so important? With his boss away, this was his free-time, and he was just enjoying a night off? So surely his absence from the flat only proves his innocence? Or maybe those timings tell us everything we need to know about his lover’s brutal murder.

On Saturday 16th August 1980, 42 year old convicted thief John Thompson had a petty dispute with a barman at an illegal nightclub at 18 Denmark Place (London). What began as a minor argument, soon escalated into one of Britain’s deadliest mass-murderers, and yet almost 40 years on, the story, the victims and even the perpetrator himself is almost entirely forgotten. The question you have to ask yourself is why?Date: Saturday 16th August 1980Location: 18 Denmark Place, St Giles, London, W1Victims: 37 (but technically 38)Culprit: John ThompsonMurder Mile is a true-crime podcast and audio-guided walk of London’s most notorious (and often forgotten) murder cases, all set within one square mile of the West End.
