Navigating Pediatric Policy in 2025

Navigating Pediatric Policy in 2025

As the political climate shifts in 2025, there are important discussions around Medicaid, mental health and executive orders that will impact our kids. From Medicaid eligibility changes to funding cuts, to benefit adjustments, the political forces shaping healthcare may have profound effects on both our patients and providers. In this episode, we examine the current state of affairs and answer questions we’ve heard from clinicians in our communities.

Joining us for this discussion is Zach Zaslow. He is the Vice President of Advocacy and Community Health at Children’s Hospital Colorado and an expert on health policy.

Some highlights from this episode include:

  • An overview of the Medicaid program and the roles of state and federal governments
  • How federal funding cuts could impact pediatric healthcare
  • The role of advocacy and how pediatricians can be a voice for the children they serve
  • The focus on mental health and the importance of this current crisis

The Intersection Between Aviation & Medicine with United Airlines (S4:E12)

The Intersection Between Aviation & Medicine with United Airlines (S4:E12)

Safety and teamwork are second nature for pediatric providers. In medicine, we have long looked to the airline industry as a leader in the application of crisis response and as the ideal of high reliability. Coming from a shared reality that even the most experienced professionals are vulnerable to human error, both aviation and medical professionals rely on problem-solving strategies to optimize responses to critical incidents. In this episode we discuss the collaborative work of physicians at Children's Colorado's Heart Institute and Human Factors and Pilot Development leaders at United Airlines. Our guests are Robby Bishop, MD, Director of the Simulation Lab at the Children's Hospital Colorado Heart Institute; Rob Strickland, Senior Manager of Human Factors and Pilot Development at United Airlines; and Carlos Porges, Psy.D, Neuropsychologist, Boeing 757/767 Pilot and member of the Human Factors and Development Team at United Airlines. Advancement Towards a COVID-19 Vaccine with Sean O'Leary, MD (S4:E10)

Register for the next Provider COVID-19 Town Hall on Thursday, December 3 from 6-7:30 p.m. MST: https://bit.ly/33eMy2D  Today on Charting Pediatrics, we will talk about what to expect from the public release of the COVID-19 vaccine, what it means for pediatrics and facts you can begin sharing with parents in your practice to arm them with knowledge and confidence in this vaccine. With vaccine candidates showing robust immune response there is mounting anticipation for a vaccination that could bring an end to the pandemic. This news comes as community spread of the virus is raging and hospitalizations have surged across the United States.  Sean O’Leary, MD is our guest for this episode. Dr. O'Leary is an Infectious Disease physician at Children’s Colorado and Director of the Colorado Pediatric Practice-Based Research Network.
