Art Town is an upstate New York podcast hosted by Justin Baker. Each month, Baker engages in thoughtful conversations with regional artists and artisans, exploring their work, creative processes, and the lives they lead. In this episode, we explore the intensely physical, often absurd, and always thought-provoking work of Abraham Ferraro. From getting repeatedly punched by a spring-loaded boxing glove in The Knockout Artist, to climbing a rotating wall with claw hammers in The Stationary Climber, Ferraro’s performance pieces push the limits of endurance while reflecting on the struggle and ritual of making art. We also dive into his mailable sculptures—ingeniously engineered cardboard forms that fit within USPS size limits and repurpose recycled materials into fully realized objects of art. Whether through sweat, repetition, or the absurdity of how the artist gets their work to the gallery, Ferraro’s work asks: what does it really take to make something we call “art”?
