If you’re a tall girly reading this right now, I want you to tell me if this has ever happened to you. You’re at a bar, or if you’re under 21 in the U.S., you’re somewhere other than the bar, and a random stranger comes up to you and asks you how tall you are. Nothing new, of course; it happens from time to time. You’re feeling good vibes today, so you answer the question. Just as an example, you say that you’re 6’2” because you are. And then the stranger says, “You can’t be 6’2” because I’m 6’2” and I’m looking up at you.” And no, you’re not wearing heels, by the way. Or you are and proceed to take them off to show your actual height (spoiler: you’re still taller).Either way, you’re like no, I AM 6’2”, but whatever. Then, the stranger quite literally starts arguing with you about how you’re wrong and you’re the one lying and bla bla bla. And you’re just like chill, we literally don’t even know each other; it’s not that deep babes. Existing as a tall woman can be difficult at times.Okay, I’m making it seem like being a tall woman sucks. And truth be told, it DOES suck sometimes, but overall, it is a beautiful experience. Truly. There are so many things to love about being a tall girly. However, I’m not gonna lie to y’all. There are other features in addition to our height that often play a part in our unique experiences that can negatively affect us. For example, I did an episode discussing the unique struggles tall Black women face based on different stereotypes, like aggressive, intimidating, etc. I essentially said that being Black often leads to people associating these women with those stereotypes, and being tall kind of doubles down on those stereotypes, if you get what I mean. And now it’s been brought to my attention that the tall plus-sized girlies have their own unique set of struggles. From clothes to being on the receiving end of aggressive behaviors to oversexualization, the tall plus-sized girlies are going through it. The Obsession With Tall Girls Is Out of Control | Why Is Everyone So Fixated on Height?
We’re gonna set the scene for the tall girls.By the way, this may or may not actually be a true story. You’re a tall girly in the grocery store, shopping because we all have to eat. A lady approaches you and asks you to reach a can of whatever off a high shelf. Well, a high shelf for her because she’s pretty short. Now, of course, it’s your literal duty as a tall citizen to reach things from high areas for people, so you do it. You hand the can of whatever, and she says thank you. You go back to browsing. But she keeps talking…and that’s where it all goes downhill. She goes, “You know, you’re pretty large for such a pretty girl.” Oh????? Anyways, you laugh it off. She continues, saying, “I’ve been eyeing you from afar because I didn’t know how big you were, but as I got closer, you’re bigger than I expected.” Oh, so we’re stalking people now?? Now you’re weirded out, and so you just say “oh…awesome”, and try to walk away. AND THEN she says, “You know, my son likes really tall girls. You’d be the perfect height for him”. And that’s when you speed away because who says something like that if they’re not gonna kidnap you. I’ve watched too many horror movies and Dateline episodes to try to figure out what happens next. Anyways, this story isn’t the first time that a tall girl (who happened to be me lol) would receive weird comments or have a conversation solely based on her height.
