That’s the question on everyone's mind as we lead into the 61st TV Week Logie Awards this Sunday. Gold Logie hopeful Tom Gleeson has pitted every nominee against each other, and not everyone's happy about it. Do we owe the Logies a little bit of respect? Or is it completely redundant? Plus, is it ever okay to change your engagement ring, a year after you’ve received it? That’s what Meghan Markle has done, and Holly has some very strong feelings about it. And Elizabeth Gilbert says everyone has two hours in their day when they're at their best. When is your window? And what do you do with it? Introducing True Crime Conversations With Jessie Stephens
Jessie has a new show! It's called True Crime Conversations and each episode sees her interviewing experts about crimes that captivated, horrified and perplexed people from rural Australia to the world stage. This is the first episode about the case of Belgian Backpacker Davine Arckens. When 24-year-old Belgian backpacker Davine Arckens reached out to a man on Gumtree about working on his farm she was excited. The 88 days of labour would mean she could stay in Australia on a tourist visa for an extra year. She couldn’t wait to spend more time in a country she thought was safe and full of nice people. When Davine met the man it didn’t take long for her to realise she’d made a terrible mistake. Driven to what felt like the middle of nowhere, Davine was convinced she was hours from the nearest town. What followed was two harrowing days where she was held against her will and an escape that made national headlines. Walkley award winning journalist Richard Guilliatt reported on the story and he joins Jessie Stephens to walk us through it. Join our Facebook group True Crime Conversations here. Are You An Introvert Or Just Lazy?
We debate, discuss and dissect everything from the sex lives of millennials to whether or not you should confront someone who told you they were having a birthday dinner but then never sent you an invite. HOW RUDE! Rihanna has come out as a #ShyGirl in a recent interview, which has us wondering whether there’s a difference between shyness and introversion. And whether one of them is just a cover for laziness. Plus, it’s all over the news that millennials are NOT having less sex and that maybe we’ve been fooled by bad data. So why are Gen Y fooling around less often? Holly has some passionate words for those who aren’t regularly getting busy between the sheets. And in group therapy we help out a listener who doesn’t know what to do about her close friend not inviting her to her birthday dinner. You Need To Calm Down
From Taylor Swift's new music video to why we need to protect backpackers more in Australia, the latest episode of Mamamia Out Loud is live... Taylor Swift's new music video for You Need To Calm Down has split people into two camps: It’s either an empowering LGBTQIA+ anthem or it’s a tone-deaf, attempt to co-opt a marginalised group’s stories. Please explain. Plus, Jessie’s been working on a new true crime podcast and the first episode is all about an horrific attack on a young Belgian backpacker. Do we need to do more to protect young travellers to Australia? (You can subscribe to her new show here). And in a column in the Weekend Australian, Nikki Gemmell asked the strangest question: Why do male gynaecologists do their jobs? Keanu Reeves Is Very Good In Bed
On today's show, we tackle everything from Gwyneth Paltrow's living arrangements to the Adani coal mine. And yes, the fact that Keanu Reeves is apparently good in bed. The ideal husband, according to Gwyneth Paltrow, is one who lives somewhere else. At least part of the time. In an interview with The Sunday Times over the weekend, Gwyneth Paltrow said she and her husband of less than a year, Brad Falchuk, live in separate homes in Los Angeles for 3 nights of the week. And a lot of you think it’s a good idea. But is it a rich person’s problem or a solution to keeping your relationship fresh? Plus, a year ago Eurydice Dixon was murdered. But has anything changed since then? Jessie did some research, and you might find yourself surprised. And we answer a group therapy about a baby and a dog that will give you all the feels. What Happens After The Worst Day Of Your Life
On the show today...everything from Ash Barty’s epic win to how a family who lost everything are inspiring so many... Five years ago, Anthony Maslin and Marite Norris faced a devastating loss. Their three children Mo, Otis and Evie aged 12, 10 and 8 were killed in the MH17 disaster while on their way home to Perth. They were with their grandfather Nick Norris, who also died and it was the end of the world as they knew it. We’re talking about the Maslin’s story today because on Monday, Rin and Anthony appeared on the ABC’s Australian Story to speak about the moment their lives changed forever. Holly thought it would be harrowing viewing but it was one of the most uplifting and positive things she's ever seen and she explains why. Plus, Nike recently introduced plus-size and para-sport mannequins at its London flagship store. But the plus size mannequins are ruffling some feathers and Mia calls bullshit. And, on Saturday night Ash Barty became the first Australian woman in 46 years to win the French Open and the second First Nations woman in history. We give a shout out to this incredible woman. Stuff We Pretend To Like
A few weeks ago a New York Times article claimed no one enjoys drinking Aperol Spritz and the internet went mad. Because apparently, it’s true. Which got us thinking..what other things do people pretend to like? Oysters? Mothers-in-law? Sex? Mia has a very long list and it involves parks, pools and a whole lot of other random things. Plus, next time someone tells you a man’s career will be ruined if an angry woman makes an allegation against them in the #metoo era, we want you to picture Holly’s Tuesday night. She went to see the comedian Aziz Ansari. At the Sydney Opera House. It was the first of two sold-out stand-up shows he was playing to the 2000 capacity Concert Hall. Yes, Holly didn’t cancel Aziz Ansari and she’s here to talk about why. And you can also read about it here: https://www.mamamia.com.au/aziz-ansari-sydney/ And a 26-year-old man named Robbie Tripp is getting a lot of heat on the internet for praising his ‘curvy wife.'
