Finding Purpose Through Service, Kindness, and Non-Profit Work.

In this episode, Angie Lion of Black River and Vanessa Moos CEO of The Children’s Village discuss the importance of the leadership skill planning and organizing. Vanessa shares her experience of planning events and fundraising over 1 million dollars per year to fulfill the mission of The Children’s Village to keep the doors open to serve children who experience abuse, neglect, or are in crisis and need temporary safe housing. Vanessa shares her own leadership frameworks that help her to navigate barriers and create a culture of service that she has picked up through her Non-profit education and a variety of roles she has held across the United States. The Children’s Village is a very special place in Angie’s heart, as she worked there in college and got to see first hand what an amazing and safe space this is for kids and families, and what important work this is.

A career nonprofit professional, Vanessa Moos has been living a life in professional service since 2008. She graduated from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio with a bachelor's degree in Communications and earned a master's degree from California State University in Public Administration with a specialty in Public and Non-Profit Management. Vanessa worked for the American Cancer Society for 12 years at the start of her career, growing from community level partnerships to the director of the regional market in San Diego. In 2016 she was promoted to a national role of writing and activating global volunteer onboarding processes for the American Cancer Society as well as training national staff on volunteer engagement strategies and practices. In 2019 Vanessa joined Children's Village, a federally accredited residential treatment program for children as the role of Director of Charitable Giving and promoted to Chief Executive Officer in May of 2021. Vanessa spent 12 years moving around the country in partnership with her husband, Eric, while he served as an F/A-18 pilot in the United States Marine Corps. Married since 2009, Vanessa and Eric, now a pilot with a major airline, are parents to Baron, aged 6 and Everett, aged 4. Vanessa is a 2020 winner of Kootenai County Top 30 Under 40 awards, Coeur d’Alene Rotarian, board member for the Idaho Nonprofit Center, and member of the Leadership Committee at the Coeur d’Alene Regional Chamber of Commerce.
