Art Town is an upstate New York podcast hosted by Justin Baker. Each month, Baker engages in thoughtful conversations with regional artists and artisans, exploring their work, creative processes, and the lives they lead. In this episode, I sit down with Christian Henry Wechgelaer, whose colored pencil drawings—often layered with digital imaging and traditional printmaking techniques—act as quiet excavations of memory. Rooted in both playful spontaneity and melancholic self-reflection, his work navigates the blurry space between imagination and recollection. By using abstraction as a kind of visual shorthand, Christian gives form to memories that resist language, drawing connections between childhood perception and the pursuit of a more complete sense of self. Christian received his BFA from the Saint Rose an his MFA from the University at Albany. Insightful, intelligent, and grounded in the art world’s evolving narrative, Art Town is where regional voices find resonance. www.christianhenrywechgelaer.com Or follow him on instagram @christianhenry17 Theme music by Phantogram interlude sound is the Woodland Hill Chamber Players performing M to the Third by Nunez end credits by The Art Town Players
