The word Gaslighting was first used in a play in the 1938 version. A movie about Gaslighting was released in 1945. The term Gaslighting comes from the psychopath flickering the lights and dimming the lights used at that time. Gaslighting starts out very slowly and increases over time. The end goal is to get the victim to start to question their sanity.
