The Austin Yogurt Shop Murders (Part Three: Guilt)

On October 6th, 1999, police in Austin announced the arrest of four suspects in the area's most high-profile cold case.

Maurice Pierce and Forrest Welborn were two young men that had been suspected of involvement back in 1991, while Michael Scott and Robert Springsteen - their friends at the time - had been with them on the weekend of the murders. Now in their mid-20's, these four were alleged to have murdered four teenage girls in a yogurt shop years prior, and were subsequently charged with their deaths.

Over the next several years, a complicated story would begin to play out in the Texas court system, where anyone's guilt was far from assured. Eventually, the state's case would begin to fall apart under pressure, leading us to the present day...

Kimberly Riley & Jeremy Britt-Bayinthavong

Kimberly Riley & Jeremy Britt-Bayinthavong

17 years ago, two lives were lost in a tragic holiday shooting in Tacoma, Washington. On November 28th, 2002, the paths of 19-year-old Kimberly Riley and 5-year-old Jeremy Britt-Bayinthavong would converge at a house in Tacoma's South End. Jeremy was the grandson of the homeowners, who were hosting a large Thanksgiving party, while Kimberly (an out-of-state student attending the University of Washington) was a family friend. As the evening began to die down, a shooter would open fire into the home's windows, shooting Kimberly and Jeremy (alongside two others). Both would eventually succumb to their injuries, and the shooting remains unsolved almost two decades later. The Lane Bryant Shooting

In 2008, an unknown gunman would commit one of the few unsolved mass shootings in U.S. history. February 2nd of that year was a cold and blustery day in the region of Tinley Park, Illinois. That morning, two Lane Bryant employees and four customers would be taken captive by an armed gunman just after the store opened. The gunman, who posed as a delivery man, would loiter in the store for upwards of 40 minutes, before shooting the six female hostages and making off with a little more than $200.
