Live from Wimbledon Day 11 - Anisimova, Swiatek break new ground, how does Sabalenka rebound?

Catherine Matt and David were joined by special guest Pam Shriver to analyse two completely different women’s semi-finals and look ahead to tomorrow’s men’s semis.

In Part 1 we discuss the gripping match between Amanda Anisimova and Aryna Sabalenka, a tight, three-set tussle that felt on the edge until the very last point. We talk about where the match was won and lost, whether Sabalenka got her tactics right, and what Anisimova did to carry herself over the line.

Part 2 (40m44s) - Anisimova will meet Iga Swiatek in the final, who was utterly dominant against a seemingly compromised Belinda Bencic. We discuss Swiatek’s progress on grass and how her own success has surprised her at this tournament. Plus, a brief detour to sample some strawberry pasta.

In Part 3 (55m56s) we review the Wimbledon mixed doubles final and Pam and David disagree on the status of the US Open mixed doubles to come. Then we look ahead to the men’s semi-finals, do some more punchy percentage predictions, and Pam gives us her scoop on what happened to Djokovic’s scheduled practice.

WTA Finals Day 5 - More Shenzhen misery, but Shapovalov cheers us up in Paris

It was a downbeat day in Shenzhen, with alternate Kiki Bertens being forced to retire against Belinda Bencic, and Ash Barty easily beating Petra Kvitova.Catherine Whitaker, David Law and Matt Roberts do their best to find some talking points amid the gloom. Why are so many players getting ill or injured? Would the tennis be more interesting on a faster court? And how much better did Ash Barty play today than in her second match? In Paris, there was at least a thrilling performance from Denis Shapovalov to discuss, but why was Alexander Zverev so sloppy? WTA Finals Day 1 – Shenzhen era begins; Osaka and Barty win; Andrew Bettles Interview

WTA Finals Day 1 – Shenzhen era begins; Osaka and Barty win; Andrew Bettles Interview

David Law and Matt Roberts recap the opening day of the WTA Finals as Naomi Osaka beat Petra Kvitova and Ash Barty defeated Belinda Bencic, both in three sets. How was the staging and crowd support in Shenzhen? In what way was Naomi Osaka’s honest and open coaching timeout with her father a demonstration of her mental strength rather than a sign of any weakness? And how did Ash Barty pick her game up so dramatically after a slow start? Looking ahead to Day 2, David speaks to Andrew Bettles, coach of defending champion Elina Svitolina. He talks about how Svitolina played ‘freely’ to win the title last year, analyses how she’s improved her game against powerful players, and discusses his own journey in coaching. Elsewhere, there’s chat about the fervent home support Dominic Thiem receives in Vienna, Roger Federer’s sparkling form in Basel, and another title in China for Aryna Sabalenka. We are produced in association with Telegraph Sport. *** SHOW LINKS ***The Tennis Podcast is sponsored over the next two months by the Davis Cup Finals by Rakuten, which take place 18-24 November in Madrid.
