Operation Bitcoins: Crypto Extortion and Cybercrime

The operation was initiated after improper entry into a government system, where sensitive information was extracted. The investigation identified a systems engineer linked to one of the IPs, who was extorted with a ransom in bitcoins. During the raid, a cryptography laboratory was discovered, where the individual operated with bitcoins and card cloning equipment, which made it the first case prosecuted for extortion with cryptocurrencies in Uruguay.
