Best of the Daily Blast: Angry Trump Shocked to Discover Putin Has Humiliated Him: “Bullshit!”

Best of the Daily Blast: Angry Trump Shocked to Discover Putin Has Humiliated Him: “Bullshit!”

Original air date: July 10, 2025 It appears to be dawning on President Trump that he will not be ending the Russia-Ukraine war in one day as he promised during the campaign. Trump’s frustration at Vladimir Putin is rising: This week he accused Putin of hitting him with “bullshit” and even admitted Putin’s word to him is “meaningless.” This comes as it’s now being reported that Putin is escalating the war against Ukraine and that he’s brushing aside Trump’s anger about it. Add it all up, and Trump is plainly humiliated, realizing that Putin is laughing off his demand for “peace.” We talked to Mona Charen, policy editor at The Bulwark, who writes well about the Trumpified GOP’s embrace of Putin. She explains how Putin has long played Trump, why Putin feels free to humiliate him, and what the various scenarios ahead look like. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Trump in Asia: He Didn't Start a Nuclear War! Yay.

Trump in Asia: He Didn't Start a Nuclear War! Yay.

The President is returning from Asia. He says it was the greatest trip there since Marco Polo. His defenders note that he didn't start screwing up too badly until a few days in. But then again, once he started screwing up...he really went to work flip flopping on trade with China, kissing up to Putin, insulting Kim Jong Un, making nice with the murderer who currently runs the Philippines, insulting the US intelligence community, watching as the nations of the region did TPP without the US and so much more. Our panel of experts, Rosa Brooks of Georgetown, Kori Schake of Stanford and David Sanger of the New York Times discuss...and also take a deep dive into Sanger's recent reporting on the crisis at the National Security Agency. It's a Mobbed-Up World

It's a Mobbed-Up World

Robert Mueller is approaching the Trump investigation as one would approach the wrong-doing of a crime family. And why not? Money-laundering, lying to the Feds, and dealing with pretty unsavory characters are par for the course. What is more, the architects of all this are another crime family, that of Vladimir Putin. And some of the other regimes the Trumps like the best also seem to have embraced a style of governance that is more "Sopranos" than it is "Hamilton." Is this new or the norm? And...in a special discussion...we also explore how the abuse of power is especially hurting women in the national security community. Join Rosa Brooks of Georgetown, Susan Hennessey of Lawfare and Brookings, and Ed Luce of the Financial Times for this timely discussion.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/deepstateradio. Will he even be inclined to hold press conferences or will he fear all public questions will circle back to his problems back home? Will the Chinese take advantage of his weak position? Will the Russians? How tempted will he be to stay away? How will his exhaustion and discomfort at long trips away from his bed play into his tendency for out of control responses? Our regulars Rosa Brooks, Kori Schake and David Sanger offer the answer Deep State Radio nerds (and everyone else) needs.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/deepstateradio. A Gold Star for Hypocrisy

A Gold Star for Hypocrisy

The current political dust-up over the President's mishandling of expressing his sympathies (or his interpretation of what sympathies would be like if he were capable of healthy human emotions) is revealing a bigger problem in American life. It is very hard to have an honest, open conversation about our military affairs because any critic of the military is immediately deemed buy their opponents to be unpatriotic. On this episode, Kori Schake of Stanford, Rosa Brooks of Georgetown, Ed Luce of the Financial Times, and Deep State Radio host David Rothkopf discuss the controversy and the deeper underlying issues. The Birth of Strategic Muddling Through

The Birth of Strategic Muddling Through

In this episode of Deep State Radio, a discussion about the state of the rudderless, visionless Middle East (and America's rudderless, visionless foreign policy) leads Rosa Brooks to frame that the core idea behind modern US foreign policy should be "strategic muddling through." Our panel of Rosa, Kori Schake, MacKenize Eaglen, and host, David Rothkopf, discuss. While all agree its how most of we who reside in the Deep State manage our personal lives, there is disagreement about the implications. Good for China? Good for Russia and Iran? Bad for our Arab allies? Maybe all of the above? Or is it still, as Kori concludes, the best of all times to be an American? Tune in and muddle through with us.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/deepstateradio. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Learn more about your ad choices.
