Crossing a River in Ghana | Exodus 14 | Missionary Joe Consford

Intro Welcome back to the Morning Meditation Podcast. Each weekday, we open God’s Word together, read a portion of Scripture, and share a story that helps us meditate on what we’ve read throughout the day. So, wherever you are—fix a cup of coffee, find a quiet spot, and let’s settle our hearts before the Lord. Today’s reading is Exodus chapter 14, one of the most dramatic miracles in all the Bible—the crossing of the Red Sea. Scripture Reading – Exodus 14 (KJV) Story – A River Crossing in Ghana In Ghana, once I needed to reach a remote village to deliver Bibles. The only way across was a river with a bridge built by the villages from lumber they sawed themselves. It was long and built in a trestle style. The moment you stepped on the bridge it began to sway back and forth. As we stepped onto the bridge with the heavy boxes of Bibles, I stared at the current rushing below and wondered, “Lord, how are we going to make it across with all of this?” Halfway through, the bridge began to sway dangerously. My heart sank. But just then, I remembered Israel standing before the Red Sea—an army behind them, an ocean before them. They had no human way out. God parted the waters for His people, and that day, He steadied the bridge for us. We arrived safely on the other shore, and those Bibles reached the hands of people who had never held one before. What seemed impossible became possible, not because of our skill or strength, but because God Himself carried us through. Reflection: Exodus 14 teaches us that God delights in making a way where there is no way. The Israelites didn’t need a better plan, stronger weapons, or faster feet—they needed God. And it’s the same for us. Whether it’s a financial burden, a broken relationship, a health crisis, or even the fears that keep us up at night—God is greater. He is the God who parts seas, steadies bridges, and opens doors we cannot see. When the Israelites looked back, they sang in victory, “The Lord hath triumphed gloriously.” May that be our song too—because the God of Exodus 14 is still our God today. Outro: Thank you for joining me on today’s Morning Meditation Podcast. I hope this story helps you carry the truth of Exodus 14 with you throughout the day. Tomorrow, we’ll turn to the New Testament and read the entire book of Philemon together. You won’t want to miss it. Until then, may the Lord bless you and keep you, and may His Word dwell richly in your heart.
