The speed with which the Omicron variant of COVID is spreading is staggering and scary. The United States had more than 650,000 new Omicron infections last week but as the variant surges, the FDA today approved an easy to take pill to treat Covid-19. Meanwhile, those still hoping to be with family for the holidays, getting tested in advance is a challenge and time is running out. And we all remember those early COVID patients, cruise ship passengers trapped at sea. A cruise ship just returned to Miami after a COVID outbreak on board. We spoke with two passengers who got sick on the trip and say the ship's nurse never gave them a COVID test. Plus, call it the silver cloud of this latest wave of COVID. The next few days had been expected to be records for air travel, but with the Omicron variant now raging. Is it really a good idea to go? It’s a question being asked by most everyone with a flight reservation. And almost two years into the pandemic, it often seems we have just as many questions... and with this new Omicron strain, one question is, is it less virulent than previous strains? It's an important question, especially considering people like this woman, so called COVID long-haulers, who still suffer effects long after they were infected. Plus, Christmas came early to the White House. As the president and Mrs. Biden show off their new puppy, Commander. But what happened to their other dog named Major? And the fall from grace for actor Chris Noth has been swift and certain just one week after he was accused by two women of sexual assault. The head of the National Institutes of Health predicts America could see as many as a million new cases a day - and with people uncertain whether they have the sniffles or a case of COVID — testing lines are endless. And did confusion over COVID rules lead to the death of a resident of a care facility? The patient wasn’t breathing and nurses at the facility called the paramedics who allegedly said they couldn't help the man unless he was brought outside. The paramedics who were involved have been placed on leave pending an outside investigation. Plus, Amazon drivers have been saving Christmas, thanks to all their deliveries but this Amazon driver may have saved a life when she jumped to action to save a girl and her dog being attacked by a pit bull! As Megan Alexander reports, it was all caught on a doorbell camera. And the show 'did' go on, but the final Saturday Night Live of the year was a stripped-down affair with only a few actors and some canned skits. SNL’s Pete Davidson was not on the show - but he was out...with Kim Kardashian.
