IN THIS EPISODE:

  • [0:44] Tips for grounding to stay present
  • [4:14] How to know when you need to spend time grounding
  • [8:44] Tips for feeling present and grounded at work
  • [13:53] Vanisha shares some breathing exercises

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • The episode provides practical tips for grounding and feeling present to maintain balance and stability, particularly when you feel overwhelmed, like a "hamster on a wheel." Techniques include placing feet flat on the ground with palms on the thighs or heart while taking slow, deep breaths and performing simple movements such as seated or standing forward folds. These actions help regulate the nervous system, reduce stress, and bring you a sense of calm and focus
  • Individuals with high energy or busy lives often benefit from activities that intentionally slow them down. Restorative yoga and sound healing classes, for example, can provide a necessary reset, balancing mental and physical energy. Recognizing when you need grounding—like feeling overly busy or scattered—allows you to incorporate these techniques to achieve flow and stability
  • Breathing exercises are a simple yet powerful tool for grounding, reducing stress, and achieving mindfulness. By focusing on intentional breaths—such as deep inhales, pauses, and open-mouth exhales—you can calm your mind, reset your nervous system, and find balance in moments of overwhelm anywhere

About the Host:

Vanisha is an RYT 500 and lives in Austin, TX. She began her yoga journey in 2017 during her 1L year at Georgetown Law. The first year of law school is the hardest and is often the gateway for the bad habits that run high among legal professionals. Lawyers are at an extremely high risk of alcoholism, drug abuse and dependency, anxiety and depression, so Vanisha turned to yoga to avoid falling victim to one of the former. It was here on her mat where she found peace, which led her to want to bring this to her law school community. Vanisha became a certified instructor during the summer of her 2L year of law school and began teaching classes on Georgetown’s campus in the fall of her 3L year. Upon graduation, she obtained her 300-hour certification in 2020 and moved back to Austin, where she teaches yoga and practices law as a 5th-year associate at a law firm.
