Dating App Deaths | Lauren Smith-Fields, Sydney Loofe & Warriena Wright

Lauren Smith-Fields was a vibrant and ambitious 23 year old woman who loved matcha tea, working out and was studying to be a physical therapist. In December 2021, she met a man off the dating app, Bumble. Lauren invited the man to her apartment in Bridgeport, CT, where they had some tequila and watched a movie. During the evening, Lauren left the apartment for 10-15 minutes to meet someone outside. When she came back in, they continued watching a movie and Lauren fell asleep on the couch. Her Bumble date alleges that he carried her to bed and he then fell asleep beside her.
When he woke up at 6.30am, Lauren was not breathing and she had blood coming out of her nose. He called 911 and was said by police to be “frantic, trembling, and visibly shaken.” When authorities arrived, Lauren was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Lauren’s death has been botched from the start. Lauren’s family have said that:
  • Lauren’s Bumble date was not taken into custody and questioned because he seemed like a ‘nice guy’, according to police.
  • They were not informed by authorities about Lauren’s death. They had to find out by going to her apartment when they could not get in touch with her. There they found a note on the door from the landlord, and that is how they learned their daughter had passed away.
  • Police treatment of the family has been horrible. Police officers who were initially working the case have been taken off it, and an investigation into their conduct is being carried out by Internal Affairs.
  • No forensic examination of Lauren’s apartment was conducted until the family stepped in. When Lauren’s family went to clear out her apartment, they found a used condom, an unidentified pill, as well as bloody sheets, that had not been taken into evidence.

An autopsy was conducted and the Medical Examiner has determined that Lauren died from a drug overdose of fentanyl, promethazine, hydroxyzine, and alcohol. Lauren’s family are adamant that she was not a drug user.
Because fentanyl was found in Lauren’s system, Bridgeport PD opened the investigation which will be conducted by the Narcotics and Vice Division with assistance by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

The 'Wife Swap' Murders | The Stockdale Family

The 'Wife Swap' Murders | The Stockdale Family

Timestamps: (7:58) - Stockdale Family In 2008, the Stockdale family from Ohio appeared on the reality TV show ‘Wife Swap.’  Kathy and Timothy Stockdale were raising their four sons in a very strict, conservative manner.   This is an excerpt from the family manual Kathy prepared for ‘Wife Swap.’  We moved to the country to get the boys away from the city. Our children are being raised away from violent language, sexual influences, drinking, smoking, drugs, rap music all the things we left behind in the city. Instead we are raising our children on a diet of wholesome activities and farm work; keeping their minds pure and their bodies healthy and keeping out the influences of modern society. That is why we home-school. By 2017, two of the children remained in the family home - Jacob and James.  One day that year, while Timothy was at work, Jacob fatally shot his brother James and his mother Kathy.   He then attempted to take his own life by shooting himself in the head.  He survived and was hospitalised for many months. After he recovered, Jacob was charged with the murders of his mother and brother.   No motive for the killings has ever been revealed. In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss the murder/suicide involving the Stockdale family from ‘Wife Swap.’ Read our blog for this case Join us on Patreon for exclusive true crime content.  You also get ALL episodes ad-free and weekly BONUS episodes! Vanished Without a Trace | Siblings Lilly & Jack Sullivan

Skip to the case time stamp: (9:10) On May 2, 2025, siblings Lilly (6) and Jack (4) Sullivan were said to be in the kitchen of their home in Nova Scotia, Canada.  Their parents - mother Malehya Brooks-Murray and their stepfather Daniel Martell - became worried when the children fell silent. The story they have told authorities is that they believe the children slipped outside to play and wandered off.  The couple searched for the children before calling 911.   A large-scale search ensued for the children.  The search involved hundreds of people and ran for weeks.   The only traces of the children that have been found include a blanket and a possible boot print. Since their disappearance, Malehya has left the family home and has blocked Daniel on social media.   Daniel is adamant that he had nothing to do with the disappearance of the children and has told the media that he passed a polygraph test. The Murder of Jason Corbett | Murder or Self Defense?

The Murder of Jason Corbett | Murder or Self Defense?

Timestamp to get straight to the case: (5:38) In 2008, Irish man Jason Corbett placed an ad for an au-pair to assist him in raising his two young children Sarah and Jack.  Jason’s first wife Margaret had passed suddenly in 2006, leaving him widowed with two small children. American woman Molly Martens answered the ad.  She moved from her Tennessee home to Limerick, Ireland to live with the Corbett family.  Molly and Jason fell in love and decided to move back to America to get married and settle.   Their marriage soon soured - Jason was resistant to Molly adopting his children.  Molly would regularly make comments about Jason’s weight. One night in August 2015, Molly’s father Tom was staying with the family in the Corbett home.  He called 911 and reported that there had been an altercation at the home and he had acted in self-defense.   When authorities arrived, Jason was pronounced dead. In 2017, Molly and Tom ended up being convicted of Jason’s murder. In 2023, they both took plea deals in the case and were resentenced.   They were freed from prison in 2024. This case is in the media again due to the new Netflix documentary titled ‘ A Deadly American Marriage.’   Read our blog on this case Be sure to join us on Patreon for exclusive weekly, ad-free content - patreon.com/truecrimesociety Follow us on Instagram for the latest crime news - Instagram.com/truecrimesociety This episode is sponsored by: IQBar - IQMIX is a zero-sugar drink mix from IQBAR that hydrates, boosts your mood and promotes mental clarity.  And right now, IQBAR is offering our special podcast listeners twenty percent off all IQBAR products, plus get FREE shipping.
