Dr. Fran Bates Oates- Questioning Race with a Racial Identity Coach -Episode 33

Dr. Fran Bates Oates grew up at a time where she could read “colored only” before she could read any book. At the age of 11 she saw a black man hanging from a tree with burnt hands and feet and she saw more burning crosses than she could count. Now as a racial identity coach, Dr. Fran has worked through her own feelings about race, to help white women figure out who they are as racial beings and to see themselves differently. She often asks the question: “When is the first time you knew you were white?” The answers she gets are the key to moving us closer to understanding each other.
