Dr. Rita Fierro- Digging Up the Seeds of White Supremacy: Is Fear at the Root of Racism? Episode 128

Today we go digging deeper for the seeds of racism systemically and individually. We are not only looking at the seeds…. but the soil. Is FEAR at the heart of racism? Dr. Rita Fierro, author and racial healing consultant, offers a window into what collective healing would look like. Can we look at our role in white supremacy on even the smallest level and see our part? I think we can. Connect with: Dr. Rita! Her firm, Fierro Consulting, LLC, has increased the effectiveness of organizations internationally that are committed to reducing racism and sexism by helping them realign their internal cultures with their values and measure their results. In her latest book, Digging Up the Seeds of White Supremacy, Dr. Rita explores how exploitation and oppression have branched into persistent structures that are resistant to change. The book also addresses the extensive trauma this creates and how we can transform the world through our personal and collective healing. In 2012, Dr. Rita partnered with similarly minded activists to establish the Home for Good Coalition. Their goal is to help communities organize against the racism that is embedded in our courts, our schools, and numerous other systems. Dr. Rita has studied racism and its effects for more than 30 years. She has a Ph.D. in African American Studies from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, and a Master’s in Sociology from the University of Rome, Italy. Dr. Rita comes from a long line of traditional healers and is both a Reiki and Family Systems Constellation practitioner. Dr. Rita currently lives between Philadelphia and her ancestral home in Italy and travels extensively in her pursuit – and wonder – of healing for herself and others.
