Best Soundtracks For Bad Movies, How To Become A Film Writer, Wu-Tang, Black Panther 2, Aladdin, & Daredevil

On the October 12 2018 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editor-in-chief Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film Senior Writer Ben Pearson and writer Chris Evangelista to talk about the latest film and tv news, including Wu-Tang, Black Panther 2, Aladdin, Daredevil Season 3 and in the mail bag we’ll answer some listener e-mail. You can subscribe to /Film Daily on iTunes, Google Play, Overcast, Spotify and all the popular podcast apps (here is the RSS URL if you need it). In The News: Ben: ‘Wu-Tang: An American Saga’ Drama Series Heading to Hulu Chris: ‘Black Panther 2’: Ryan Coogler to Write and Direct Marvel Sequel Ben: Marvel Oscars Reaction: ‘Aladdin’ Teaser Trailer: Disney Invites You To a Whole New World Chris: ‘Daredevil’ Season 3 Review: The Marvel Netflix Series Goes Back to the Basics In The Mail Bag: Yesterday on the podcast, Peter wondered out loud if there had been an actor who had been in both DC and MCU movies simultaneously. A couple people responded with examples:Kyle says “Hey Peter, was just listening to the podcast from yesterday and got to the point where you and Ben talked about Marvel actor switching to DC. It's small, but Laurence Fishburne is Perry White in DC and Bill Foster in Marvel.” Damon says “Re: your conversation on about actors active in both MCU and DCU, although Djimon Hounsou’s Korath was killed in GOTG, he is returning in Captain Marvel. He is also in Aquaman.” David C from California writes in, “Is there a movie song (or soundtrack) that you like, that comes from a movie that you don’t? Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me by U2 came on the radio the other day. I bought that CD back in the day, and I loved that song — and today I can’t even recall if it came from the Clooney or the Kilmer Batman movie. Being an old school hair metal fan, I really like the Last Action Hero soundtrack, but don’t care for that movie. Thank you for your show.”Peter: The 1998 Godzilla soundtrack Chris: Man of Steel Ben: Space Jam soundtrack, Scotty Doesn’t Know (Eurotrip), That Thing You Do! More people have written in with Zombie children movie suggestions:Tyler K says “I don't think this movie was mentioned but it was the first that came to my mind. It’s called Cooties and stars Elijah Wood. I haven't seen it but I remember the trailer and thought that it was an interesting idea.” Gokul from New Zealand writes in “I've been following the antics of David Chen and the /FilmCast for years, and now that /FilmDaily is around, it has quickly become my favourite podcast to listen to during my morning commute. Carrying on from your comment from last week about zombie children, I would like to mention one of Peter Jackson's early movies, Brain Dead, which features an awesome zombie baby. Without getting into spoilers, there's a scene with the baby and a blender that is just spectacular and even a little bit cathartic (no I'm not sadistic or twisted, it makes sense if you watch the movie) :) I hope you check the movie out. Love your guys work, and if any of the /Film crew ever come back to New Zealand (sorry I missed your visit here HT), I would love to have a drink or two with you and talk movies” Anthony C writes in “Hey Peter! I am long time reader of /Film and listener of /Film Daily. I wanted to get your opinion on if you need a college degree or cinema studies background to work in the world of film journalism. Also, is there a "beginners guide" on how to make an entrance into the film writing community? Right now I am in college and have been in college for what seems like forever. I have switched majors several times and I am starting to feel discouraged when it comes to finishing my degree. I am going for a degree in Environmental Health and Safety at the moment so that I can eventually make ends meet and be able to do something that brings me some kind of joy, but ultimately the degree I'm going for doesn't bring as much joy as watching films and reading/listening to people talk about films. The Mandalorian Spoiler Discussion: Chapter 23 "The Spies"

The Mandalorian Spoiler Discussion: Chapter 23 "The Spies"

On the April 12, 2023 episode of /Film Daily, /Film Editorial Director Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film editor Brad Oman and Star Wars expert Bryan Young for a spoiler-filled conversation about The Mandalorian Chapter 23 “The Spies”.In The Spoiler Room: The Mandalorian Chapter 23 “The Spies”FeedbackHeather Fox writes “I like the theory that Grogu could join Rey in teaching the new Jedi order, but I think they are setting Grogu up to be the future Mandalore. Here are some of the reasons I believe this: 1. He would be the second leader since Tarre Vizsla to be a Mandelorian/ Jedi. 2. We have seen him calm large creatures, he will likely be able to ride a mythosaur. 3. He would be able to rule Mandalore for centuries! 4. We have always assumed that the title of the show is was about Djin, but what if it is really about the origins of the greatest ruler of Mandalore?”Matthew: “In the most recent discussion about the latest episode of the Mandalorian, you guys picked up on the Alice In Wonderland influences, but missed or didn’t bring up the heavy Isaac Asimov influence. I felt that the episode felt like a love letter to Isaac Asimov's old noire detective robot series. … In that series, humans have reached other planets and have gotten robots to do all the labor, freeing people's time. People live inside large dome structures connected by tunnels so that people rarely go outside. The series has 2 detectives, with the lead detective being very distrustful of robots, but over several stories turns around to trust them, just like Din’s current arc. The stories start with 2 detectives getting called in because of malfunctioning robots, often murder and while the robots are initially the lead suspects, it's always a human who is behind the crime, having found some way to bypass Asimov’s 3 laws of robotics. I really loved Asimov’s novels growing up and so I absolutely loved this episode as it felt like the closest thing to seeing one of these novels adapted for tv.”Spencer: “If the Dark Saber goes to whoever defeats the owner, then it belongs to Luke:  In CLone Wars Maul defeated Vizsla, later Ahsoka defeated Maul. In Rebels Ahsoka is defeated by Darth Vader. And finally Luke beats Vader in Return.   However if it's while they’re wielding it then it would belong to Darth Maul, because Sabine just found it.”Nathan: “My biggest beef with the sequel trilogy was that the state of the galaxy at the end of Rise of Skywalker was the exact same as at the end of Return of the Jedi with the only difference is that NOW our favorite characters are all dead. I'm really glad that the upcoming Rey movie will deal with the reestablishment of the Jedi Order as I felt that should have been the overall focus of the sequels from the start. I also REALLY hope that John Boyega signs on in some capacity as well.  One more thing: the villains in Ahsoka have orange lightsabers! Do you know if that's ever been a thing before, or is this new?”Brief reactionsBradBryanPeterMid-Roll Sponsor break: “we’re going to take a quick break, and we’ll be right back”BreakdownThe Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 7 Takes Us To A Dark Place And Is Exactly What The Show NeededWhat Is The Mandalorian's Mysterious 'Project Necromancer'? We never discussed an idea, because as everybody knows, Kevin is a huge 'Star Wars' fan. And if, you know, he did come up with something, I would be all ears, but that's never really happened, so. [...] It's not an abandoned project, it just didn't happen."Lars Mikkelsen Confirmed As Grand Admiral Thrawn In AhsokaSkeleton Crew Will Give Young Star Wars Fans A New Entry Point To The FranchiseWe're seeing the opportunity for fans to find where their entry point is. In Star Wars there's a lot of things now going back almost 50 years so it you don't want people to feel like they have see everything in order to step into Star Wars and we also want to look at the generational aspect of Star Wars, it's always been something that's been passed down so something like Skeleton Crew, we're really excited about because you know that's it's aimed at younger kids but will still bring in the fans, still bring in adults. But that's an opportunity for a kid that … can step into Star Wars and make it their own. And I think that's the beauty of the storytelling that's going on now is that everybody can kind of find where their entry point is.”All the other stuff you need to know:This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp.
