When Justice Fails | Bryan Kohberger’s Profits & The Abby Zwerner Trial

When Justice Fails | Bryan Kohberger’s Profits & The Abby Zwerner Trial

Two stories. One broken system.
In Idaho, Bryan Kohberger could legally make money off his own murders. In Virginia, a first-grade teacher named Abby Zwerner was shot after four separate warnings were ignored. Both stories show how America’s justice system has traded accountability for excuses — and how law, morality, and bureaucracy keep collapsing under their own contradictions.

Tony Brueski and former prosecutor Eric Faddis connect these cases in one of their most morally charged episodes yet. The first half, When Infamy Becomes an Industry, explores how constitutional loopholes turned the First Amendment into a profit shield for convicted killers. The Supreme Court’s Simon & Schuster decision gutted Son of Sam laws nationwide — and states like Idaho never replaced them. Tony and Eric unpack how “free speech” became a business plan for murderers and why politicians are too afraid to fix a law that lets killers cash checks while victims’ families get nothing.

The second half, The Price of Ignorance, turns the spotlight on institutional cowardice. In Newport News, Virginia, teacher Abby Zwerner was nearly killed after school officials ignored every warning about an armed six-year-old. Tony and Eric examine how fear of optics, legal liability, and self-preservation led to tragedy — and what that means for every teacher still walking into a classroom unprotected.

Together, these stories reveal a single truth: justice in America doesn’t end at the verdict — it just changes platforms. Whether it’s a killer monetizing murder or a school hiding behind procedure, the result is the same. Profit over pain. Policy over people.

Meet The OTHER Suspects In The Idaho College Murders, Before Bryan Kohberger

The shocking murders of four University of Idaho students left the country searching for answers. But behind the scenes, investigators faced an unexpected roadblock—DNA evidence that led them to the wrong suspects… or so they thought. In this deep dive, we uncover the “Four Brothers” lead, the family connection that could have solved this case weeks earlier if only one person had said yes to a DNA test. So what happened? And how did the FBI step in to change everything? In this episode, we break down the never-before-heard details of how Investigative Genetic Genealogy (IGG) played a pivotal role in the arrest of Bryan Kohberger. From the knife sheath DNA that started it all, to the family tree that left investigators stranded, to the moment the FBI took over and found the missing piece, this is the real story behind the DNA trail that almost went cold. Join us as we expose the critical mistakes, surprising refusals, and groundbreaking forensic work that led to an arrest. If you’ve followed the Idaho Murders case, you don’t want to miss this exclusive inside look at how law enforcement nearly lost their suspect—and how a single DNA match sealed his fate. Shocking New Kohberger Claim, Witness Recalls Seeing Him with “Vacuum-Type Object” As He Fled

Shocking New Kohberger Claim, Witness Recalls Seeing Him with “Vacuum-Type Object” As He Fled

Shocking New Kohberger Claim, Witness Recalls Seeing Him with “Vacuum-Type Object” As He Fled Newly revealed court documents have provided fresh insight into the night of the brutal home invasion attack that left four University of Idaho students dead, as Judge Steven Hippler denied a motion from accused killer Bryan Kohberger. The ruling rejected his defense’s attempts to challenge key evidence and upheld the validity of the search warrants used in the case. A surviving housemate, one of two roommates who were not attacked, told police that she saw an intruder walk out the back door of the Moscow, Idaho, home. She described him as a tall, lean White male with "bushy eyebrows" and noted that he was carrying a "vacuum-type object" as he left after locking eyes with her. Although she admitted to police that her memory was “fuzzy and cloudy” and that “everything was kind of blurry,” her description of the suspect remained consistent across multiple interviews. She also recalled hearing a male voice inside the house say, "I'm here to help." His defense team had sought a Franks hearing, a rare legal proceeding where they could argue that law enforcement misrepresented or omitted critical information in the search warrant affidavits. They focused on the surviving housemate’s credibility, claiming she was in a dreamlike state and that police unfairly paraphrased her statements. However, Judge Hippler ruled against them, stating that any issues with her account were “fodder” for cross-examination at trial but did not impact the probable cause that led to Kohberger’s arrest. The court documents also revealed new details about the evidence seized from Kohberger’s Pullman, Washington, apartment. Investigators collected a dust container from a Bissell PowerForce vacuum, which was found in a closet near the front door, along with a black glove and receipts. The contents of the vacuum remain undisclosed. Retired NYPD inspector Paul Mauro weighed in on the discovery, stating, "If he was exceptionally careful, and wore booties, etc., it could explain the lack of other forensics. Especially if it was a wet vac." Criminal profiler and psychoanalyst John Kelly echoed that sentiment, saying, “He was probably trying to clean up hair and fiber.” Kelly has previously suggested that the suspect may have used his criminology background to stage the crime scene and eliminate forensic evidence. Inside Kohberger’s apartment, police also noted the absence of shower curtains and empty trash cans. However, they did recover bedding with blood stains and hair samples. His office was also searched, but no physical evidence was collected from there. Authorities allege that Kohberger meticulously planned the attack and may have researched other knife murders before the slayings. At the crime scene, a knife sheath was found under Madison Mogen’s body, which contained DNA allegedly matching Kohberger. However, the murder weapon has never been recovered. Judge Hippler dismissed all of Kohberger’s motions to suppress evidence, including an argument that law enforcement improperly withheld information about investigative genetic genealogy (IGG) techniques used to identify him. The judge ruled that such details would have only strengthened the probable cause for search warrants, not weakened it. With the judge’s decision standing, Kohberger’s trial remains set for August. If convicted, he faces the death penalty. #IdahoMurders #BryanKohberger #TrueCrime #UniversityOfIdaho #BreakingNews #CrimeScene #Justice Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE?
