Regional Conflicts and Armed Confrontations

Cambodia Thailand Border Tensions Escalate: Armed confrontations between Cambodian and Thai forces have intensified following a deadly incident on 28 May that killed one Cambodian soldier. Military buildups on both sides have raised concerns about potential wider conflict.

Somalia Security Forces Battle Multiple Threats: Al Shabaab militants captured strategic towns including Sabiid and Caanoole near Mogadishu whilst federal forces clashed with regional Jubaland troops. Ethiopian forces directly engaged Somali federal forces in Doolow town on 27 July.

Sudan Conflict Intensifies in Kordofan: The Sudanese Armed Forces launched major operations against Rapid Support Forces whilst ethnic mobilisation increases as RSF attacks on civilians take on tribal dimensions.

International Trafficking Networks Disrupted: Multiple arrests across North America with a 35 year old male charged in Durham Region for transporting victims to multiple countries. Cumberland County operations resulted in 14 arrests in Operation Impact Demand XII.

Hurricane Erin Sets Records: The Atlantic hurricane underwent extreme rapid intensification through unusually warm ocean waters made up to 100 times more likely by climate change. The storm became one of only a dozen Atlantic hurricanes since record keeping began.

Typhoon Kajiki Strikes Southeast Asia: The typhoon killed three in Vietnam and caused extensive flooding in Hanoi with over 1.6 million people losing power.
