SUNDAY SPECIAL: Tammy Hembrow On Her Cancer Scare

Hey Outlouders! For this week's Sunday Special, we're dropping an exclusive episode of our sister podcast Well into your feed, featuring Australia's golden girl, Tammy Hembrow. Tune in for her first-ever detailed public discussion about her melanoma diagnosis...

When you build your brand on the sun-kissed Gold Coast lifestyle, in some ways, the sun is your business partner. For global icon and fitness entrepreneur Tammy Hembrow, spending her life at the beach without ever wearing sunscreen was the norm. She thought she “never burned” and was convinced she was “immune” to the dangers of the sun.

At 28, that all changed. A tiny, harmless-looking freckle on the back of her leg led to a shocking melanoma diagnosis.

In this raw and honest interview, Tammy Hembrow sits down with Claire Murphy and shares her story of the skin cancer diagnosis that blindsided her. She reveals how she cancelled her skin check appointment "about five times" before her assistant finally made her go, the shock of learning the freckle was melanoma, and the surprising reality of the surgery that left a large "permanent reminder" on her leg.

Tammy opens up about the "rebellious" teenage attitude that made her ignore her dad's advice, and her new perspective on tanning, and the message she’s desperate to share with the millions of young people who follow her.

This is a powerful wake-up call about the real, and often hidden, dangers of Australia's sun-loving culture.

2015 has been a year where we've had unprecedented public conversation around domestic violence. The lynchpin? Rosie Batty. The Australian Of The Year etched her way into the hearts and minds of Australians for becoming the courageous and inspiring campaigner for domestic violence-related support. BONUS: The Year We Stopped Talking To Each Other

Remember the days when you'd set the VCR? Or have to be home Sunday nights at 6:30pm to catch the once-a-week Disney movie? Or have to sit next to people on the couch and watch the same show, on the one screen? HA. 2015 was a game-changer for the way we watch TV. A glut of streaming services entered Australia, feeding us quality TV programming, when we wanted it and how we wanted it. The result? A rennaisance of quality programming that we devoured. Families that can spend a night all enjoying something different. But what's the major downside? You literally cannot talk to anyone for fear of spoilers. Oh. Oh. Ohhhhhhpprah. It’s been almost five years since our life coach overlord has actually filmed a show but she’s still kicking. On the eve of her Australian tour we dive into the cult of Oprah. KPI’s are generally used in the workplace to measure performance, but should they be used on your partner? And are the days of bikini models draped seductively over cars numbered? This week, tyre manufacturer Pirelli made a calendar that some are calling the signal for a major cultural shift for women. Female empowerment comes in mysterious ways…. like a tyre calendar…. Name One Thing You're Good At

Social media is rife with #humblebrags, so why are women crap at talking themselves up in real life? Do you forget things easily? We can now blame "Google brain" for that. We talk paternity leave, dating at the gym, breakfast raves, mouthguards in bed, and who Taylor Swift should choose as her Australian #girlsquad representative.
