Welcome to The Cannabis Therapy Potcast!

Welcome to the Cannabis Therapy Potcast with your hosts, Jen O'Dea and Earl Carruthers. Aptly titled Potcast, we broadcast live every Thursday at 4 p.m.

Jen and Earl cover different cannabis topics every week, from news and education to politics and history.

Earl Carruthers holds a bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University. As a captain of the Wayne State Football team, he played through the pain of a cracked pelvis for years. After studying and working in finance for almost 3 years he realized he wanted to help people on a deeper level.

When medical cannabis became legal in Michigan in 2008, Carruthers, despite having never tried cannabis and being quite set on a clean path, saw an opportunity to further his interests in helping others. He reflected on his own mother, who lives with bipolar disorder and Schizophrenia, and understood how cannabis interacts with the brain. He also learned more about cannabis and pain management; considering the pain he was experiencing on a daily basis.

Beginning as a caregiver, Earl was involved in several court cases, two of which went all the way to the Michigan Supreme Court. His fight and dedication on these charges changed case law for all Michigan patients, including the legal definition of “edibles”.

Through these experiences in the early, chaotic stage of the Michigan cannabis industry, Earl is emerging as a passionate educator and advocate looking to normalize cannabis. He is vertically integrating his efforts; with growing, processing and retailing for over 8 years. He was also recognized as the first person-of-color dispensary owner in the state of Michigan. He brings a unique, insider point of view to Potcast.

Our other co-host Jen O’Dea has been involved in the cannabis industry for several years; but has been passionate about the medical and health benefits of cannabis since the first time she inhaled. She hopes to one day open her own cannabis shop.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in business marketing from Western Michigan University and brings exceptional project management skills to her position at Onenie. Co-hosting Potcast also presents her with the opportunity to pursue her interests in educating individuals on the benefits of cannabis and erasing the stigma that surrounds our industry.
