She ate low-fat, whole grains, and no eggs.  Her weight was healthy. Yet, her cholesterol was over 300.  The doctor prescribed Amanda statins at the age of 32. After six months, she got her numbers under 200.  [07:35] The Number One Reason Why Dieters Fail The number one reason why people fail is the all-or-nothing mindset. We feel like we have to be perfect to make progress.  How to break your all-or-nothing mindset: Practice progress over perfection. Learn the power of resetting immediately. Always do something.  When someone can’t do it all, then they choose to do nothing. Instead of trying to do it all, pick one thing to focus on for the week to come.  [14:00] Intermittent Fasting and Why Amanda Loves It For Weight Loss  Breakfast is not actually the most important meal of the day. It took Amanda ten years of being a dietitian to realize that.  There are actual physiological processes in the body that help us thrive in a fasted state.  It’s effortless to be an intuitive eater. Time-restricted eating is not a diet. It’s not about what you eat. Instead, it’s all about when you eat.  Amanda loves intermittent fasting because it’s flexible. You don’t have to fast every single day.  Lastly, fasting is free, and it doesn’t cost you any money!  [18:00] Fasting Before Bed: Tips To Stop Your Late Night Eating Habits  Drink herbal tea in the evening. Non-caloric beverages are also okay to drink before bed. You can also adjust your eating window.  If you prefer to eat more in the evening, then eat less in the morning.  Start with a 12 hour fast, then ease your way into a 16 hour fast.  [20:20] We Eat Way Too Much! Eat Until You’re Full and Lose Weight For some reason, people want to graze all day long. The reason you are eating all day long is that you’re not eating to fullness.  You can eat 700 calories during one meal and still lose weight.  People are scared of calories, fats, and carbs. At mealtimes, we are significantly undereating, which leads to more snacking.  Sadly, people are eating every hour and a half.  Finding six healthy things to eat throughout the day is impossible. Usually, the first three things you eat are healthy; then, the last three are not. Instead, we need to eat solid meals and stop snacking.  [24:30] Metabolic Inflexibility Is A Key Risk Factor For Covid-19 During Covid, the conversation should be focused on metabolic health. If we had true metabolic health, Covid wouldn’t be such an issue. 88% of Americans are metabolically inflexible and unhealthy.  We should get outside and get vitamin D. Also, Americans need quality protein, healthy fats, and to go outside and walk.  Everyone's health has deteriorated significantly. We are now way more prone to any type of disease and virus. [28:00] Why You're Not Losing Weight From Your Registered Dietician  You’re not losing weight because you are sitting all day long.  Sitting is the new smoking!  Taking a walk after a meal will result in lower blood sugar. That’s the power of activity. When we eat and lay around, our blood sugar response will be much greater.  Another reason you aren’t losing weight is that you are focusing on calories instead of macros.  Losing weight is all about blood sugar regulation. Carbs digest rapidly, so they leave you wanting more.  [40:20] Should You Avoid Carbohydrates For The Rest of Your Life?  The only right way to keto is to cycle. It’s not healthy to be in ketosis forever. If you’re fat-adapted, you will be able to curb your cravings. Plus, you’ll be able to eat carbs and still feel fine.  People need to have an understanding of what a good carb level is for them. [44:20] Do You Need Electrolyte Supplementation On A Keto Diet? Electrolytes are your missing link. There’s a huge power of sodium, potassium, and magnesium.  Without adequate hydration, you can't metabolize fat. Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr. Yoshi Rahm. He is a board-certified osteopathic family physician with a separate board certification in Integrative and Holistic Medicine. Dr. Yoshi grew up in a small town in Northern California. His simple upbringing, which included living without electricity, TV, or phone, gave him an early appreciation for healthy living.   He attended U.C. San Diego, where he majored in Animal Physiology and Neuroscience and minored in Human Development. He ran Track and Cross-Country for UCSD before co-founding a running club. After graduating, Dr. Yoshi interned at a neuroscience laboratory in Germany and traveled throughout Europe before working at a nonprofit Biotech laboratory in San Diego. He passed away from a seizure when he was twenty-five. [07:55] Why Disease Stats Are Not Getting Any Better In The United States  Many diseases come down to politics, poor education, and big pharma. Where is the money being spent on advertising? It’s being spent on pharmaceutical ads.  The population will split into two segments: the people who know what real health is and everyone else in the United States.  The average life expectancy has actually gone down in the past year or two.  [12:00] What You Need To Know About Methylene Blue Methylene blue has been around for a little over 100 years.  In fact, methylene blue was one of the first true medications in the United States.  The World Health Organization has methylene blue on its list of essential medications to fight parasites.  Methylene blue is excellent for the mitochondria.  Methylene blue's only real side effect is that your mouth will turn blue.  If you require mitochondria support, methylene blue is extremely useful.  [20:20] Using Methylene Blue To Benefit The Mitochondria and Help Your Body Heal   “Methylene blue is food for the mitochondria.” -Dr. Yoshi   You can have these mitochondria that die off, but you can also have half-functioning mitochondria. When you have a metabolic disease, the mitochondria are not working well. Methylene blue will go to the broken mitochondria, which will benefit it the most.  There are many reasons for disease, but one is not having enough energy. When we can correct deficiencies, our bodies will know how to heal.  [27:10] Some of the Many Benefits You Can Experience Using Methylene Blue Methylene blue will give you clarity of mind because it supplies enough energy to the brain. Also, methylene blue will help brain fog lift.  Plus, methylene blue is excellent for physical energy.  Any excess methylene blue gets excreted through the kidneys. So, methylene blue is good for chronic UTIs and bladder infections.  Lastly, methylene blue is phenomenal for chronic infections.  [36:15] Using Sunlight, Sea Salt, and Water To Help With Cell Communication  Humans used to get water from springs and rivers. Water, minerals, and sunlight will structure the water. Eventually, he realized this would not be fulfilling.  Dr. Vega’s mom had type 2 diabetes. After studying nutrition, Dr. Vega advised his mom to eat fewer carbs and more fats.  After four months, his mom was able to reverse her type 2 diabetes. Eventually, Dr. Vega started a service where he trained people three times a week at the gym and would explain what lifestyle changes his clients should pursue.  Dr. Vega doesn’t only teach his clients about diet and exercise; he teaches all about mindset, self-sabotage, and the subconscious mind. [22:20] The First Key To Health Is Getting Sunlight At The Proper Time  The first key to health is sunlight. You need to expose your skin to sunlight at the proper time.  Having sunshine between 10 am and 2 pm exposes your body to ultraviolet B rays.  These rays will help your body produce vitamin D.  Vitamin D is associated with better mood, and it will help with inflammation.  Depending on your skin type, you may need between two and thirty minutes.  [27:50] Another Key To Health Is Proper Sleep Hygiene  We are designed to work during the day and recover during the night. Sadly, many people are working when they are supposed to be sleeping. Also, we have unlimited access to streaming services that keep us awake when we should be sleeping.  When you’re not sleeping at night, you will not experience the benefits of anti-inflammatory properties during sleep. All in all, the longer you can sleep, the better your body will be able to recover.  [30:15] Keys To Health: Electromagnetism and Spending Time Outside Grounding will help your body attract electrons. Put your bare feet out on the Earth. Also, remember to take off your sunglasses to benefit from having light in your eyes.  Remember to spend time outside.  When you’re outside in the early morning hours, you’ll be exposed to blue light, which will help you generate dopamine, serotonin, and melatonin.  Melatonin is the most potent antioxidant for the mitochondria. [34:00] A Key To Health: The Power of Your Thoughts and Negative Thinking  Everything that you create in the outer world, you first have to create in the inner world. Also, if you don't drink enough water, your hunger centers in the brain might be activated. When you are dehydrated, a pathway turns glucose into fructose. Eventually, it will turn into fat.  If you breathe through the nose, you activate the parasympathetic.  If you are stressed, your respiratory system immediately changes into chest breathing.  85% of people are chest breathers; this will tell your body that you are under stress.  [49:50] Keys To Health: Exercising and Stress Management  Zone two exercises are great for metabolic health and fat-burning. Stress management will help keep your glucose levels in check.  Mainstream news could be making you fat from the stress responses.  The bottom line is stress is not good if it is sustained throughout the day. We grow because of stress. Today we have Dr. Benjamin Bikman on the Keto Kamp Podcast. Dr. Bikman is a biomedical scientist, professor, and expert on insulin resistance. Dr. Benjamin Bikman studies diabetes and obesity, and much of what he focuses on is a seemingly obscure condition called insulin resistance. But it’s, in fact, not very obscure at all. Half of all adults in the U.S. have insulin resistance. That means you could have it too, and you don’t know it. What is insulin resistance? Why did Dr. Benjamin Bikman devote his career to studying something like this? Well, insulin resistance is essentially two things. First of all, some cells in your body aren’t responding very well to the hormone insulin. Second, you have more insulin than you did before, a condition called hyperinsulinemia. Insulin resistance is at the root of virtually every chronic disease. If we go through the chronic diseases that are killing us today, things like Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, and certain cancers, what they all have in common is insulin resistance. Experts should have discussions politely and respectfully and acknowledge that there is room for disagreement. There ought to be a degree of skepticism that we apply to every authority. We should challenge that authority to some degree. There are people with Ph.D. degrees who we shouldn’t trust. Overall, we should always be on our own journey to understand what is accurate and true.  A Basic Understanding of Ketosis  Ketosis is the state where blood ketones are elevated, but pH is normal. Every human has some amount of ketones, even if it's below the detection level on commonly used devices. When you’re in ketosis, you will have a detectable level of ketones on a moderately used device and yet pH is not changing. Ketones have the potential to make the body more acidic. When someone's in ketosis, the amount of hydrogens coming off the ketone is relatively modest. Within the blood, there are numerous buffering mechanisms. That way, your body will defend its pH range. Overall, ketones are fat-burning products; when insulin is low, the body will burn fat at a high rate.  Ketones Are Energetic Molecules; Plus, Ketones Are Signaling Molecules Ketones are energetic molecules roughly similar to the calories you get from glucose. Plus, ketones are signaling molecules. If a ketone is being used as a fuel, it will come to a cell. Then the ketone will get shuttled into the cell through an MCT (monocarboxylate transporter). When the mitochondria have a lot of pressure to be burning molecules, they get the signal that they need more mitochondria. Fatty acids can have the same effect. When a cell is burning a lot of fatty acids for fuel, it will start stimulating mitochondrial biogenesis.  Why The Laws of Thermodynamics Are Misleading Regarding Weight Loss People are producing ketones and breathing out ketones, and urinating them out. Remember, ketones have a caloric value. Calories matter, but don’t worry about them. Let the calories take care of themselves. Invoking the laws of thermodynamics in nutrition and human metabolism was one of the greatest tragedies in the history of human-relevant science. It absolutely misled us and made us demonize fat and embrace carbohydrates. Hormones matter at least as much as calories because hormones tell the body's cells what to do with the available calories.  The Problems With Metabolic Syndrome and Insulin Resistance  Metabolic syndrome used to be called insulin resistance syndrome. Insulin resistance is the single most common problem in the US and abroad. Plus, insulin resistance is relevant to virtually every chronic disease. Covid has only made metabolic problems worse. Luckily, keto and intermittent fasting can help lower insulin. Remember, there is no insulin resistance without elevated insulin. Lowering insulin is a perfect way to help the body become more sensitive to it. If no nutrients are coming into the blood, insulin starts running out of nutrients in the blood that it can store away. So, insulin comes down when nutrients aren’t coming into the blood. This will be critical as we look toward the future of the decentralization of media. [19:45] How You Can Apply Keto Flexing To Your Life  Many people think that going hard is better. However, it’s all about finding balance.  If you want to build muscle, then insulin is not your enemy, and neither is glucose. Whether you like it or not, you’ll go back to eating carbs for one reason or another.  Being able to store carbs on the shelf is really important. Today, I am blessed to have here with me Eric Reynolds. He uses a meat-based carnivore diet with minimal herbs and spices to recover from PTSD and drop the last of his extra body weight.  Eric was a cop with the Boynton Beach Police Department near West Palm when he got shot in the foot by an armed bank robber they were chasing, and he ended up killing the suspect in the process.  The whole incident left him in a pretty bad way, and he started to display many signs of PTSD.  He discovered the keto diet, and not only did his health improve drastically and all the excess weight melt away, but he found peace and tranquillity began to return to his life, and his symptoms of PTSD start to fade. He has since retired from the force and is now committed to helping other police officers get their health back and help them deal with similar problems to his.  He has established an organization called Keto-Five-0. In this episode, Eric opens up about the shooting that changed his life while working at the Boynton Beach Police Department. As a cop, Eric was overweight, unhealthy, and experiencing signs of PTSD. When Eric found the car, he got into a car chase.  After the car got into a crash, the suspect started shooting; Eric was shot, and the suspect was killed.  Down the road, Eric started to show signs of PTSD.  As a cop, Eric was unhealthy and overweight. Most of the time, cops are eating fast food.  [17:55] How Eric Learned About Keto and What Happened When He Tried The Carnivore Diet  After the shooting, Eric had a rough time getting back into the swing of things.  Eventually, Eric cut out beer and sweets to try and lose weight. Doctors were pushing statins on Eric, which is one of the reasons why he started to study and do research.  He loves helping people get off medicines and find the best nutrition plan possible.  [26:50] How Eric’s Health Improved When He Started To Lose Weight With Keto  You have to feed the brain.  When Eric started to lose weight, his energy levels improved, and his brain fog disappeared.  For the first time in a long time, Eric wasn’t as sore or inflamed.  Most cops die before they get to enjoy their pension. They are angry because they’re hungry.  Unfortunately, many calorie counters have an interest in punching someone who disagrees with them. These people will punch with their keyboards.  While some vegans are so vehement because of some type of trauma they experienced.  Then, keto people believe they can’t have any carbs.  People are doing anything they can think of to drive a wedge.  We need a group of people who are willing to be curious and experiment.   [10:10] Dave Loves Banning Trolls on Social Media Who Are Angry About Fasting  Dave has taught 70,000 people how to do intermittent fasting for free.  Check out the Fast This Way Challenge: https://daveasprey.com/fast-this-way-challenge/. People can go twenty-four hours without being hungry.  Dave bans people from his social media channels who are shrill, angry, and tiny-minded. When you ban angry people, you will be left with a peaceful space for inquiry and curiosity.  [13:10] Stop Consuming Omega-6 Oils! Two Years Later, Your Body Will Recover  There are things you do that make you weak, and things you do make you strong. The first thing you need to do is stop eating omega-6 oils: canola, soy, and corn.  Your cell membrane is actually a whole bunch of tiny droplets of fat. It changes composition based on what you eat. Once you cut the oils out and two years have gone by, half of your cell membranes will have turned over and been made out of more stable, healthier fats. If you put butter and MCT in your coffee, you won’t need as much of it after two years.  [18:25] Dave Gives Recommendations For Eating Out At Restaurants While Traveling  When eating at a restaurant, you must assume your food is being cooked in vegetable oil.  Dave is known for carrying grass-fed butter in his bag and whipping it out at restaurants.  When you travel, bring protein powder and amino acid powder.  When you’re out at a restaurant, you won’t have to worry about what to eat.  You can go 24 hours without eating, and you have protein powder if you need it.  Dave eats a lot of sushi; it’s clean food.  [26:15] Dave Gives His Thoughts on Fish Oil and Why You Should Never Overdo It You don’t want too much fish oil. There's plenty of evidence that small doses of fish oil are good for you.  Dave takes a gram a day. He weighs about 230 and is around 12% body fat. If you’re pregnant, you need to dose DHA heavily. Your body will store DHA in your butt and your thighs. It will preferentially donate that DHA to your baby. Remember, large doses of DHA are inflammatory, and your body can’t handle it.   [34:00] It’s Time To Cut Out Artificial Flavors and Remember That All Plants Are Not Your Friends We underestimate what glyphosate contamination and things like food colorings, dyes, and artificial flavors do to our brain and hunger hormones. You need to cut out artificial flavors and dyes.  Plants are not all your friends.  If you go outside and just take a bite of the first plant you see, you'll probably die or at least get hospitalized; plants are inherently toxic to us.
