Often times we are acquainted with the hustle and bustle of Planning events, but then we don’t know where the money is coming from and going to. On the show we had Event Planner Extraordinaire Temitope Omotosho to discuss the Money side to Event Planning.

She had described herself as a natural logistics; growing up in a family of six, five girls and a guy. She recalled at the time hosting Family and friends at their Christmas party every December 26th and she taking care of meat and drinks.

Still, even after the event she would often have leftover meat chunks in her care earning her the nickname ‘Iya meat’. She recalled working at a consulting firm, where she had to work at different capacities and later resigning. Although, upon taking this move, she was yet to discover her path to event planning.

During this time, she said that she had to stay home for six to seven months reading in the bid to discover herself. Despite the transition, she recalled that before starting at the time she had to take trainings on Customer centricity, Marketing and sales.

Hinting on her journey, she maintained that talent was never enough as there were a number of skills set needed to become successful at event planning. Speaking about her first professional event, she recalled that she was paid 50,000 naira for her services. Although, she broke down after the event, she had since learnt to delegate more.

According to her, Event planning was the fifth most stressful job in the world and there was need for one to build a strong support system, an army of staffs, she said. In her advice to up and coming event planners, she spoke about starting saying that she had done a lot of free work at the time as was allowed.

On the money side to event planning, she was of the opinion that when one was just starting out they couldn’t possibly charge same as veterans in the field. She maintained that it was not possible for event planners that were just starting out in the business to charge the same amount as persons who had gained a reputation over time. In her final words, she advised up and coming event planners to keep pushing, to work with established event planners and to also go for trainings.
