The rains are back in Lagos with resultant traffic on the roads. The drainage system in some parts of Lagos is poor causing flooding. Fuel scarcity is hitting hard with unending queues at filling stations while fuel prices keep going high. Elections are eight months to go and everything seems not to be working in this oil-producing nation.

There are blame games here and there; Our host, Adewunmi Oshodi on our Radio Programme – Signals Lagos talk 91.3 received audiences’ views on the environment and fuel scarcity.

All callers agreed that the citizens were responsible for the present predicaments having voted for the present government in two elections

Peter who called while stuck in Ajah traffic was of the opinion that Nigerians would have been doing fine if the subsidy on fuel had been removed by the previous government and the situation will not be this bad.

To Peter Okon, the situation of the country has never gotten this bad, he added that those who supported the government into power, openly regret their decisions.

Bassey who called in from Lekki blamed the traffic in Lagos on ‘31 states relying on the Lagos port’. He linked the fuel scarcity and hike in fuel prices to the lack of a working refinery in the country. While listing the increasing prices of bills and commodities, he expressed ‘hope in the liberation of this nation and Nigeria will rise again to become that megacity in Africa.’

Maleek said despite the illegal increase in fuel price, some filling stations still won’t sell in full measures, he blamed this cheating on the inefficiency of those who have been saddled with the responsibility of monitoring. He encouraged Nigerians on the ‘need to start holding our councilor, chairman, honorable, senator and governor accountable; they will seat up. When we hold the leg, no part of the body will be able to move.’

Chinedu from Oworo said the government embarking on several projects simultaneously and abandoning the same should be blamed for the heavy traffic. He described as a lie the claim that the Russia -Ukraine war caused the hike in price and scarcity of fuel.

Rebel Jay said things will be better when ‘we have visionary and dedicated leaders of masses who are ready to revolutionize the system’. He called on Nigerians to be actively involved in the political process from the grassroots level to the top.

Sylvester urged Nigerians to tighten their belts and exercise patience to make the right decisions in the next elections.
