Growing and Managing Talents Ft Ifeoma Martins

Providing options for learning and opportunities for upskilling and reskilling are ways an individual’s talents can be grown. Growing and managing talents require leadership development exercises and performance coaching.

The need to always learn continuously is also a major factor in growing and managing talents. Ifeoma Martins was hosted by Adewunmi Oshodi - Tapa as she discussed "Growing & Managing Talents" on lagostalks91.3

Talent according to her refers to the people you have in your organization, everybody who contributes to an organization They can be classified into blossoming talent, talents that need to be developed, or plug-and-play talents. People who are the most important resources in an organization are referred to as the talents and they determine the success or otherwise of the organization.

Management of talent is not really taken as serious as it should in Africa because of the availability of many talents. Talent development comes from a lot of trainings, a lot of mentorships, encouragement, discipline, adjustment to time, their space to bring them to a point where they can deliver, it is critical to manage from the bottom to the top. Proper management of talents cut across board to earn you good returns on investment.

It is the responsibility of the CEO to grow and manage talents. CEO is not like a self-imposed title, it is a work-imposed title, The CEO is like an executor who makes sure that the strategy of the business is implemented on a day to day or quarterly basis. Assessing how a business has performed daily or quarterly is dependent on the efficiency of the CEO.

On talent discovery for an individual, Ifeoma said one needs to admit being a talent and then place yourself in a position of bidding for what you want. Talent discovery entails Personal development and it is not about certificates but knowledge gotten and how you are able to put that to work when given the opportunity.
