336. Last Dance: The Murder of Roseann Quinn

336. Last Dance: The Murder of Roseann Quinn

In the early 1970s, New York City was buzzing with a new, single lifestyle. But in January 1973, that freedom took a dark turn. The brutal murder of a beloved young schoolteacher named Roseann Quinn shocked everyone and made national headlines. With the recent news regarding actress Diane Keaton, who starred in the controversial film adaptation, we felt now was the time to revisit the true story that inspired it all. The sensational details of the crime were everywhere, but what you might not realize is that this case directly inspired the famous and often controversial book and movie, Looking for Mr. Goodbar. That story became a significant part of pop culture and changed the way people talked about dating and danger for years afterward. This week, Jen and Cam delve beyond the book, movie, and the rumors to explore the true story of Roseann Quinn, the infamous case that terrified a generation, and the real events behind the fictional scandal. SPECIAL: Victims of Injustice: Black Lives Matter

This episode is completely different than normal. OTCP, along with 19 other podcasters from around the world, came together to stand with the BLM movement. Although we had a very small part in the making of this episode, we are so thrilled to be part of it. All proceeds we make on this episode will be donated to The Loveland Foundation Therapy Fund. https://thelovelandfoundation.org/loveland-therapy-fund/ As podcasters, we have a platform and duty to speak up and call out injustice. In light of the murder of George Floyd, we have come together in solidarity to use our platform to speak up against racial injustice and amplify the voices of black podcasters that deserve more recognition. Racism is prevalent in all industries; from the media who under-report on black victims to the justice system which routinely fails black victims. In this collaborative episode, we document black history and current events with the voices of those who have lived through it.Special thanks to:Tasha from Sinister Silhouettes https://linktr.ee/tcbytbAndre and Battle from Bruh Issa Murder https://linktr.ee/BruhissamurderSerena from Handcuffed Podcast https://linktr.ee/handcuffedpodcastAaron from True Crime? 86. A Stranger in the Night

*THIS EPISODE INVOLVES DETAILS THAT MAY BE DIFFICULT TO HEAR FOR CERTAIN PEOPLE. Listener discretion is advised. It is August 5, 1992, just before midnight when 29-year-old Joan Burghardht returns home to her apartment after a night of having fun with friends. When she got inside, she felt something was not right. It scared her enough to call the police. The police arrived at her house and she explained to them about the missing money, the fan, and that it seemed like her dresser drawers had been messed up as if someone was looking for something. Police took her statement and did a sweep of the house. Whoever was in Joan’s apartment earlier was now gone. Officers told her to keep on a few lights and to make sure all the windows and doors stay locked. Sadly for Joan, this would not be the last visit from a stranger in the dark.Join Jen and Cam as we discuss ‘A Stranger in the Dark’ on this episode of Our True Crime Podcast. 85. Friendship Fraud: George Kalomeris

85. Friendship Fraud: George Kalomeris

Fifty-six-year-old Thomas Jones was a reserved kind of fella. He lived modestly and wanted a simple kind of life so the community of Mulford Delaware provided exactly what he wanted and needed. Thomas lived by himself and was a farmer. He owned and operated a small farm but he was not quite your typical farmer. Thomas was a paraplegic but that didn’t stop him from doing what he loved to do including farming his land. It was August 13, 1997, when a hired healthcare nurse stopped by to check on Thomas. The nurse called out his name after not answering the door. As she looked around, she knew something was not quite right. Thomas kept a clean and tidy house and things always had their place. There were dishes on the table and a few papers strewn about. His wheelchair was not in the house, so she ventured outside thinking maybe he was just outside. As she was looking around, she saw something and it was not good. There was a splattering of blood in a line as if something was bleeding as it was walking away. The nurse rushed to call 9-1-1. This is just the start of a twisted tale as it just weirder from here. When 6 pm comes and goes and Elizabeth doesn’t arrive home, her mom knows something is not right. Elizabeth is scared of the dark and would never come home after nightfall. Justin, who lived with his mother, was a generous kid who had been working since he could so that he could help his mom pay the bills. He was a very likable kid, responsible and hard-working. Working at the improvement store, allowed him to meet a lot of construction workers and contractors and one of these contractors was a man by the name of Ari Squire.
