Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing what happened to Lord Voldemort's Wand AFTER his defeat at the hands of Harry Potter during the first wizarding war. I'm also going to be discussing how he EVENTUALLY got the wand back.Let's dive in.When Voldemort first caught whiff of Sybil Trelawney's Prophecy, he went in to a bit of a state of panic. His regime and his power, previously entirely unchallenged, was suddenly at risk of crumbling, which prompted him to take immediate action. While it could have been either Neville Longbottom OR Harry Potter, Voldemort came to the conclusion that Harry Potter was the boy that the prophecy was talking about, which drove him to seek the boy out. On Wednesday October 31st, Voldemort travelled to the town of Godric's Hollow where the Potter family lived. It was here that Voldemort, in an attempt to murder Harry, ended up murdering James & Lily. When he entered their home he first ended the life of James Potter, followed shortly by Lily.But as we know, Voldemort was unable to make any more progress after that, being thwarted by young Harry and Lily's sacrificial protection. After firing a killing curse at Harry, his curse rebounded back at him- destroying him (mostly, anyway). This marked the end of Voldemort and the First Wizarding War. But my question is, provided that Voldemort had been DEFEATED- how on earth did he later get his wand back? Sirius Black.Now, the Sirius Black that we know and love from the books and films, Harry's godfather, was a 'good' wizard through and through. He may have come from the 'Black' family- a wizarding family linked to many witches and wizards of dubious, if not outright poor morality, but Sirius was no bad egg, which is why his imprisonment in Azkaban for the murder of 12 muggles was always a questionable decision in the minds of Harry Potter fans.We know in reality that it was Pettigrew who, using a dark and powerful blasting curse- killed those 12 muggles. But someway, somehow, Sirius Black was blamed. After being banished to Azkaban, seemingly the whole world turned on Sirius, even the ghost-portrait of the fat lady, and he was left there to rot for an astonishing 12 years. He was eventually able to escape the island fortress by turning in to his animagus form, a black dog, and squeezing through the bars.Today I want to answer the question: Why DIDN'T Sirius Black get a trial? Today, we'll be discussing the history of the Black Lake, as well as one of its most mysterious and infamous inhabitants--the giant squid.The Black Lake--otherwise known as the Great Lake--is a large body of fresh water that sits landlocked upon the grounds of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, just south of the school's castle. Its waters can be seen directly from the castle, as it is located below the school itself.For those of you who are familiar with the other wilderness areas that surround Hogwarts castle, such as the Forbidden Forest, it is rather well known that the school's grounds offer a home to many magical beasts and creatures. Today, we'll be discussing how Dumbledore knew what happened in the Potter residence in Godric's Hollow the night that Voldemort murdered Lily and James, and attempted to kill Harry.In the past, I've discussed how Dumbledore was able to figure out how Harry survived Voldemort's Killing Curse--which if you haven't watched yet, you can go check it out after this video:.In that video, I went over the ways in which Professor Dumbledore likely uncovered the exact events of that fateful evening and how he was able to be sure that it was Lily's sacrifice that saved Harry's life. But in today's video, I'll be covering what happened before all that, digging into how Dumbledore even KNEW that something had happened within the Potter's home to begin with.To start, since the Potters had enlisted Peter Pettigrew as a Secret Keeper, it stands to reason that Dumbledore shouldn't have even known--or been able to find--the location of the Potters' home in Godric's Hollow, as it was was protected by the Fidelius Charm--a very powerful spell which conceals information within a witch or wizard's soul, who in this case was Pettigrew. This is further supported by the fact that James' best friend, Sirius Black, insisted that he NOT be the Potters' Secret Keeper, since he believed it would be too obvious if he were to know their whereabouts. This seems to clearly suggest that Sirius did NOT know where Lily, James and Harry were. And if Sirius didn't know...why would Dumbledore have known?
