Today, we'll be discussing why the Goblet of Fire ALLOWED a fourth participant and didn't REFUSE Harry Potter's entry.The entire plot of the fourth instalment of the series revolves around the magical Goblet of Fire, a wooden goblet that emits powerful flames. Created sometime in the Middle Ages, the Goblet is only taken out during a Triwizard Tournament, and acts as an impartial judge responsible for selecting a champion from each of the participating schools, which traditionally includes Hogwarts, Durmstrang, and Beauxbatons. When not in use, the goblet is kept in an ancient chest adorned with jewels. Believed to be somewhat sentient--like Hogwarts' Sorting Hat--the Goblet of Fire waits until all interested students have placed their names into the goblet. It then evaluates each entry presumably based on qualities such as merit, ability, and intelligence, and selects one champion per school, meaning in 1994, there should have only been THREE champions emitted from the Goblet of Fire. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we'll be discussing the MOST EVIL professors to have ever taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.Of course, through the ages, there have likely been a many number of rather questionable professors at Hogwarts. To prove this point quite quickly, one only has to consider the likes of Professor Quirinus Quirrell, whose hubris resulted in Lord Voldemort possessing his body and making him do terrible things, or Professor Severus Snape who performed his role as a double agent so well, he seemed nearly irredeemable as a "good guy". And yet, in my opinion, these teachers weren't among the MOST EVIL--particularly because I don't believe that either of them were in fact evil. Misguided? Sure. Mean spirited and spiteful? Absolutely. But evil? Today, we'll be discussing whether or not Harry Potter had any other surviving family members that he could've searched for--in addition to the Dursleys.When Harry Potter's parents, James and Lily Potter, were murdered by Voldemort, Albus Dumbledore made the decision to leave Harry with his only known relatives, the Dursleys. Petunia Dursley was Lily Potter's sister, making her Harry's aunt on his maternal side. Petunia was married to Vernon Dursley, and the two of them had a son, Dudley, who was similar in age to Harry.Unfortunately, the Dursleys were pretty terrible people. While they never physically abused Harry, they certainly caused him a substantial amount of emotional harm and treated him with incredible neglect, forcing him to live in the cupboard under their staircase and treating him like a servant. Harry rarely got to leave the house, with the exception of school. He was fed, but I believe if Dudley had wanted Harry's share, Petunia and Vernon would've given it to him.So, all in all, Harry's placement with the Dursleys was not the MOST TERRIBLE but it certainly could've been MUCH BETTER.
