It's a deadly standoff for the nearly 200 hostages being held for days by Hamas. They may be the one thing preventing a full-scale assault on Gaza, and a prize bargaining chip for the terrorists who kidnapped them. And for their families, as videos of their loved ones emerge, it is excruciating. Among them is the family of this 21-year-old taken from the music festival. Badly injured, in the video she is seen begging for help. And a number of world leaders are heading to the Middle East, including the German chancellor, Britain's prime minister, and the president of France. President Biden will also be in Tel Aviv, and his trip poses a security nightmare for the Secret Service. Plus, Britney Spears is on the cover of People magazine – her first cover shoot in five years. It's all to promote her upcoming memoir and it includes quite a bombshell. In the book, Britney claims that Justin Timberlake got her pregnant during their three-year relationship. And it's estimated that as many as 19 million Americans may be hoarders. Most of them have jammed their homes to the brim with stuff. But in the case of this person, their car is their castle. As Les Trent explains, that's something of a problem. This Friday the 13th has been a day of tension and worries...following Hamas' call for a day of rage and what appears to be the imminent invasion of Israeli ground troops into Gaza. Around the world, security has been beefed up. And here in New York many are choosing to work remotely so they don't have to leave home. And the mass exodus has begun after 1.1 million people in the north of Gaza were told by Israel to vacate the area before the expected ground invasion...the United Nations says that is simply "impossible." There is literally nowhere for so many people to go. Meantime, the Israeli military just released a video from the first day of the conflict. It shows them recapturing a post taken over by Hamas - giving a glimpse of what may be to come. Plus, they're the reigning Super Bowl champs so you can't necessarily say Taylor Swift's the Chief's good luck charm. However, she was at last night's game against the Broncos and they did win. Inside Edition for Thursday, October 12, 2023
Tomorrow is Friday the 13th and for the superstitious, that's always been an ominous day. However, this year, there are heightened concerns thanks to a so called 'call to arms' on the 13th by a former leader of Hamas. As the shelling continues in the Middle East, Steven Fabian reports, here in New York all of the city's 34,000 officers have been told to be in uniform and ready for any potential attacks. And Secretary of State Antony Blinken is in Israel today, as is the U.S. top hostage expert. Their focus is the scores of people, some of them American - being held by terrorists somewhere in Gaza. The former Navy SEAL credited with killing Osama bin Laden told our Les Trent just how daunting that task is. Plus, despite the war, life goes on in Israel. A couple decided to go ahead with their wedding in Jerusalem despite the conflict. With flights canceled, their American guests couldn't join them - but wait till you see who showed up to help them celebrate. Inside Edition for Wednesday, October 11, 2023
Israel's airstrikes against Gaza continued today, five days after the attack by Hamas terrorists. The death toll now exceeds 2,100, which according to the State Department, includes 22 Americans. Israel is making good on its pledge of a 'complete siege' of the Gaza Strip. No place there is said to be safe, which is of huge concern to the families of the 150 hostages. As Ann Mercogliano reports, securing their release is a top priority. And while the war is raging in the Middle East, the conflict is reverberating here in the US. Antisemitic incidents are at historic levels, and here in New York, which has the largest Jewish population outside of Israel, the FBI is warning people to remain vigilant in case of lone-wolf attacks. So, could a terror attack happen here? Steven Fabian looks at the possibility. Plus, amidst the horrors of the war, we are hearing inspiring stories of heroes. This young woman is being credited with protecting a community as the terrorists moved in, saving many lives. And she was the darling of the 1984 Olympics, winning gold and America's hearts. Inside Edition for Tuesday, October 10, 2023
A fourth day of fighting between Israel and Hamas has left more people dead, with estimates of the death toll at least 1,700. As one Israeli military spokesman put it, the carnage is unimaginable, comparing what soldiers are discovering to something from a zombie movie. The president confirmed today that 14 Americans have been killed and a number are also being held hostage. Today, family members of some of the missing Americans held a news conference pleading for help. And the Israeli ambassador said to the United Nations that between 100 and 150 people are being held hostage by Hamas, including babies. Hamas has vowed if Israel's counterattack continues, they will start executing hostages on live TV. Might it be possible to negotiate their release or stage a rescue? Jim Moret spoke with a former hostage negotiator with the Israeli Army. Plus, we live in a world of "see something, say something." Well, one guy did just that when he saw what he thought was a fire blazing inside an apartment. But when the fire trucks got there – all five of them – things were not as they seemed. And yesterday, we heard from a woman who says she's been stalked for years by a pilot. Today, we catch up with the accused man as he heads to court. Inside Edition for Monday, October 9, 2023
Journalists from around the world have headed to Israel to cover the war on the front line. Today, many had to take cover while heavy bombing could be heard in the Gaza Strip. Israel vows a "full siege" in response to this weekend's devastating attack. And the death toll continues to rise as the war between Hamas and Israel moves into its third day. There are now nearly 1400 confirmed dead, including nine Americans. The images we see on TV are heartbreaking. As Les Trent reports, Israel's 9/11 is having a big impact on our shores as well. Hamas attacked Israel by land, by sea, and by air, with the latter being a surprisingly low-tech, but efficient method of dropping fighters into Israeli territory. We now know Hamas used paragliders to effectively invade. Jim Moret spoke with a motorized paraglider operator in Southern California, who is appalled that aircraft like these were used as instruments of terror, to see how they work. And as the conflict continues, a number of celebrities are weighing in, with many getting a mixed reaction to their posts. The war hits very close to home for Wonder Woman star, Gal Gadot. She was born in Israel and says her heart is aching over what she's seeing on TV.
