Nikki Hiltz After Winning The U.S. 1500m Title And Breaking The Mile American Record In 4:16.35
“I think the only time I thought about that American record was that last 100m because I was like, ‘You have to beat Elise no matter what. If you guys are going fast enough and you’re not in front of her, she’s going to get it.’ I think I barely outleaned her and ended up getting sixth. The results took forever to load and come up on the screen but when they did it was such a party because everyone set their national record. Seven of us were out there stoked. At this event, everyone is so happy for everyone. It’s cool to see the camaraderie. We know that if one of us is going to do well, we’re all going to rise to that.” Nikki Hiltz is putting together one of the most impressive outdoor seasons. Last month was an absolute triumph for Nikki, as they clinched the U.S. 1500m title, kicking to victory ahead of the likes of the 800m Olympic champion Athing Mu, U.S. Olympian Cory McGee and the reigning U.S. champion, Sinclaire Johnson. My interview with Nikki went viral after they dedicated the victory to the transgender community. Now, Nikki is gearing up for their second career world championships. Back in 2019, in their very first season as a professional runner, they made it to the 1500m final. Since then, they've continued to progress and currently holding the U.S. titles in the indoor and outdoor 1500m, as well as the road mile. Nikki took their momentum to Monaco, where they clocked a jaw-dropping 4:16.35, shattering Mary Slaney's American record that had stood tall since 1985. It was awesome to see so many national records fall in that race behind Faith Kipyegon’s world record. In this conversation, we dive deep into their unforgettable performance at the U.S. Championship, that epic race in Monaco, and what they're looking forward to at the World Championships in Budapest next month. Nikki is not only a phenomenal athlete but an incredible human being as well. Their passion and dedication shine on and off the track, making them an absolute joy to root for. Faith Kipyegon Wants To Run Even Faster After Breaking The 1500m + 5000m World Records, Continues To Inspire Mothers
“This journey is all about the legacy I want to leave behind to motivate the young generation. It’s not all about getting the world record and we are done. I still need more to motivate the young generation to know that ‘Faith was there and she did this. She was the Olympic champion and world champion. Now she’s a record holder.’ I still need to show girls the way and all women.” My guest for this bonus episode this week is two-time Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon. I’ve had her on the show before but I had a chance to chat with her one-on-one for a little bit on my trip to Kenya last month. This was just two weeks after she ran the world records. On June 2, she became the first woman under 3:50 for 1500m with a 3:49.11 at the Florence Diamond League. That record was a long time coming for her since she’s the undisputed greatest of all-time in the 1500m. A week later, she stunned herself running 14:05.20 to break the 5000m world record at the Paris Diamond League. She's a big deal. If you go to Kenya, you’ll see billboards of her in Nairobi and after she broke the 1500m world record, she was swarmed by her competitors for hugs and congratulations, which just goes to show the level of respect from her peers. When people in other sports have said that we’ve been lucky to see LeBron James or Tom Brady in their prime, track and field fans should appreciate this moment because we’re seeing one of the greatest talents ever in Faith Kipyegon and she has aspirations to run even faster. She’s racing the mile at the Monaco Diamond League on July 21 so we’ll just wait and see if yet another record falls. Keira D’Amato After Breaking The American Record In the Half Marathon, 1:06:39 At The Gold Coast Half Marathon
"Being injured it's so easy to think, 'This is it! This is all she wrote! That was a good run, Keira.' You can't help but let your mind go there. It was the fact that I was able to have another high and I never thought I'd get to experience anything like I experienced in Houston with that day. It felt like a once-in-a-lifetime thing that I got to experience. Part of me said, 'That might be it!' The fact that I experienced something else that was a different kind of high and win was special. That week, I doubted if I would even make it to the starting line. My daughter was having a hard time with me going so there was a lot of mom guilt going on...It was a lot of doubts and insecurities. The whole time 'hope' was a word that kept coming to mind. I hoped that I could get through it. I hoped that I would have another moment. I hoped that I could hit a big goal like that again. I was positive but you just never know if it will happen. That's where all the emotion came from." Keira D’Amato is back on the show after breaking the American record in the half marathon. Just two weeks ago, she ran 1:06:39 at the Asics Half Marathon in Gold Coast, Australia. She took 13 seconds off the previous record held by Emily Sisson. This is getting fun because Sisson broke D’Amato’s marathon American record last fall in Chicago. This was a big moment for D’Amato after she was forced to pull out of April’s London Marathon due to inflammation in her knee. She was back to racing in May and is now preparing to run the marathon at the World Championships in Budapest Watch my video with Keira in Central Park here: https://youtu.be/sikQI6sh-Xg Host: Chris Chavez | @Chris_J_Chavez on Instagram Guest: Keira D'Amato | @keiradamato on Instagram SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS 🍊 OLIPOP is a prebiotic soda with only 2-5g of sugar that is actually good for your gut health. – and it's delicious. Woody Kincaid Returns After Winning The 2023 USATF Outdoor 10,000m Title, Headed to World Championships
"Last year, I can’t even begin to tell you where my head was at. I was dealing with a lot. My dad had passed away. My girlfriend had just broken up with me. We found out that we were making this move to Eugene...Finally, this year – I’m in a new situation. The training is going super well. I feel my engine is stronger than ever. This is a good time. What do I think I can do? I think the pipedream is that I can win the whole thing. But that’s not how I’m going to go in. I’m going to go in to compete, take every wave and hit every move." My guest for today’s episode is Woody Kincaid. The former CITIUS MAG Podcaster is back after winning the U.S. 10,000 meter title for the second time in three years. He won in 28:23.01 – which was highlighted by a 54.76s for the final lap and a 26.43 for the last 200m. He finished 9th in the 5000m, which he will lend further context to. This is the first time that he joins the show since switching coaches from Jerry Schumacher and the Bowerman Track Club last year to Mike Smith. The training group that includes World Championship 4th place finisher Luis Grijalva, as well as the newly-minted U.S. 5000m champion Abdihamid Nur and 1500m champion Nikki Hiltz, has started to go by Death Row Records. Kincaid has been on fire. During the indoor season, he broke Grant Fisher’s U.S. indoor 5000m record with a 12:51.61. He also ran 27:06.37 for the 10,000m in March. He also ran 12:54.40 while unleashing an epic 54-second final kick to move from 15th to 6th on the final lap. He’s got big aspirations for the world championships, where he will focus all of his efforts on the 10,000 meters.
