This week, Drewby and Yergy head north of the border to Manitoba, Canada, to discuss one of the most notorious CPS failures in the country's history, and that is the case of 5 year old Phoenix Sinclair. Phoenix was murdered by her mother, Samantha Kematch, and her stepfather, Karl "Wes" McKay, despite CPS receiving 13 complaints about the little girl being abused, starved, and neglected. Her death lead to what was known as the "Inquiry into the Circumstances Surrounding the Death of Phoenix Sinclair." It was one of the largest public inquiries ever held in Manitoba, examining the glaring holes in the child welfare system. This week, Drewby drive a couple miles to Bowdoin, Maine, to discuss the case of Sarah Cherry. Normally, we'd give you a case preview, but not this time. We've been working on this case for the better part of two years, and it's one that's extremely close to our hearts due to it's proximity to us. As I'm sure you know by now, we try our very best to present our cases as neutrally as possible - or at the very least, as neutrally as the readily available information will allow. This case is very difficult for us due to the fact that the police in charge of case botched it all ways possible. This included destroying DNA evidence, lying in court, altering documents, ignoring two very likely suspects, and railroading a local farmer on circumstantial evidence alone. This week, Drewby and Yergy head to Pennsylvania to discuss the case of Scotty McMillan, an adorable little red haired boy who lost his life at the hands of his mother, Jillian Tait, and her "sugar daddy," Gary Lee Fellenbaum III, whom she had met at Walmart. Soon Gary, who was a father and already married to a woman named Amber, began abusing Scotty and his brother "R." He beat them with metal rods and a homemade cat-o-nine-tails, among other things, while they were hung upside down by their feet. On November 3rd, 2014, Scotty was beaten to death for not eating his breakfast. This week, Drewby and Yergy travel to Fayetteville, NC, to discuss the case of Macy Grace Ditty, an adorable little girl born to a narcissistic mother and a father who was away on deployment. When her mother, Jeanie, wasn't busy working out at the gym and cheating on her husband, she was allegedly beating Macy. When Macy ultimately succumbed to her injuries, Jeanie tried to pin the crime on her lover, Zachary Keefer. Zachary was cleared of all charges, including that of domestic violence against his ex-wife, Lisa. In all, Zachary served 44 months in jail for these crimes. And Jeanie? She is still free as of the time we recorded this episode, has a new baby, and is active on the dating apps. This week, Drewby and Yergy head to Tennessee to discuss the tragic case of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom, a lovely young couple from Knoxville that were kidnapped, tortured, sexually assaulted, and murdered. Four males and one female were arrested, charged, and convicted in the case. According to the Associated Press, some bloggers and media critics claimed that the national media ignored the murders because the victims were white while all five suspects were black. Most news reports came from local media and online news sites. Police Chief Sterling Owen IV said that there was no indication that the crimes were racially motivated. He said, "We have no evidence to support the notion that this was a race-based crime. We see this as a cold-blooded murder."
