According to the UN Nature Panel (IPBES) one of the biggest threats to increase in the already existing biodiversity crisis is spreading of invasive alien species (read more here: Media Release: IPBES Invasive Alien Species Assessment | IPBES secretariat). The Water Hyacinth is an invasive alien species in all other places than the Amazon in Brazil. Yet it has spread to all continents of our planet except Antarctica, and it has become a massive problem in many places. Is it possible to turn this nightmare into a sustainable solution? In this episode Jan Ove Rogde Mjånes and Erwin van der Put talk about how they engage students from different continents into their research to investigate possible ways to use Water Hyacinth as a resource.
