These Moments is a novel about a writer’s life from adolescence till she is a full-fledged artist. Herbjørg Wassmo writes about lack of self-confidence and the struggle to become something, about dreams and a steadfast will to be creative. It is also the story of Norway’s recent history, about education and family life in a time wrought with changes. It is about yearning for a love she doesn’t believe in, and about betrayal. And about being sensitive to impressions and enclosed in your own stubbornness.

Most of the story takes place in an expansive and challenging northern Norwegian landscape, and it is related by a narrator who is generous, tender and somewhat self-ironic, even when life is harsh. Here we meet a woman who does things she doesn’t really dare to do, who transcends taboos and paves a way that is completely her own.
