SUN ENTERS VIRGO & VIRGO NEW MOON AUGUST 22/23: TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST SO YOU’RE ABLE TO BE OF SERVICE TO OTHERS!

As we approach the Virgo New Moon at 0’23” Virgo at 11:07 p.m. PT August 22 & 2:07 a.m. ET August 23, we’re asked to plant seeds that allow us to take care ourselves, so we can remain healthy enough to then be of service to others.
This is an especially important message now because, in addition to the Sun’s entrance into Virgo & the Virgo New Moon today, we’ve got another one coming on September 21--which also happens to be a solar eclipse! And, in addition, the transiting nodal axis’s Virgo South Node has been in play since January 2025 & will last until July 2026, asking us to let go of the Virgo archetype’s less than desirable traits.
In short, we’ve got a whole lotta Virgo goin’ on! This podcast takes a deep dive into all things Virgo-related, including its positives, negatives, & this archetypes’ correlation with sacred geometry & numerology, & the mathematical belief that nature & the universe are all part of a perfectly divine order.
The Mercury-ruled Virgo archetype includes, among other things, understanding that we’re not on this earth to strive for perfection because, well, if the universe is already perfectly designed & we are part of that perfect design, then we’re ALREADY PERFECT!
Thinking we need to constantly strive to reach a level of perfection denies this universal belief. And that means continually striving for perfection proves antithetical to our understanding of ourselves & the world around us. That’s because the concept that there is such a thing as “perfection” only causes feelings of inadequacy which, in turn, produces feelings of shame & guilt since we’ll inevitably believe we’ve always fallen short in the end.
That this Virgo New Moon follows last month’s Leo New Moon lunar cycle which asked us to recognize our special uniquely creative talents as an individual, we’re asked now to recognize that as individuals we need to remain as healthy as possible. And that means physically (Virgo is an earth sign, after all), mentally (Virgo is ruled by Mercury), emotionally, & spiritually.
Isn’t it better to understand we are all different from each other & therefore each of us is perfect in his or her own way? And, once we’ve realized this, we can then make headway toward taking better care of ourselves now so that we have what it takes to take care of others when the time comes.
This podcast discusses the importance of the Virgo archetype to us all right now. We look at the benefits of realizing that we’re all part of the divine universal order & therefore perfect—even in all our imperfections. And how continuing to strive for perfection simply obscures & delays our knowledge that we are already there…
So, we’re reminded now that we cannot be imperfect beings if we are one with a universal energy that comprises the geometric perfection of nature & everything in it. Think: Golden ratio; the Fibonacci sequence, & the symbolic nature of numbers which form astrological divisions of the circle, & numerical aspects between planets, etc., & you’ll begin to conceptualize the importance of the earthy Virgo archetype as a means to better understand not only the world around us but ourselves.
The currently transiting Virgo SN, however, has been asking us since January of this year to let go of Virgo’s shadow side archetypal energies, which include being overly critical, & the feelings of shame & guilt as a result of feeling inadequate when we fall short of being “perfect.”
We’re witnessing this shadow side obsession with perfection here in the U.S. right now as we watch anyone deemed “imperfect” being jailed, deported, or otherwise abused within the collective. Name calling & labeling (read: categorizing) for the purpose of weeding out imperfection is nothing more than a negative Virgoan trait that deprives those deemed as “others” to be considered less than human therefore not deserving of dignity or rights.
Similarly, the focus on numbers right now highlights how statistical data can be used to manipulate—especially when such data is “faked” by those who want people to believe that “nothing is but what is not,” as Shakespeare wrote.
TIME TO CHANGE OLD BELIEFS & RAISE OUR CONSCIOUSNESS
This Virgo New Moon is accompanied by a mutable square of both luminaries in Virgo to Uranus in Gemini, which the Sun perfects on August 24. We’re likely to experience a sudden change of some kind then, perhaps including a sudden announcement from a prominent person, given that all planets involved are now transiting through a Mercury-ruled sign.
Meanwhile, we explore the deeper meaning of the yod forming too from the Virgo Moon & Sun to both Saturn & Neptune in Aries & Pluto in Aquarius, as well as that of the sextiles between Saturn & Neptune to Pluto. The Saturn/Pluto sextile presents us all with the opportunity to “understand the forces that make you an individual,” according to astrologer Rob Hand in his book “Planets in Transit.”
“You know exactly what you can demand of yourself, and you push yourself to the limit, but not beyond,” under this influence, he explains. “Consequently, this can be a time of great achievements.” Focused energy is recommended so that your “energy hits exactly the right target,” Hand advises. This applies both to internal & external work, he adds.
Combined with the longer-term Neptune/Pluto sextile—which has been around off & on since 1950 & will be strong again from 2026 through 2032-- we’re starting to see “larger forces for social change” happening around us that may ultimately “prove that beliefs and opinions you have held all your life are invalid,” agrees Rob Hand. Therefore, “this is an opportunity to clear away the deadwood in your brain & start over again,” he concludes. Since both NE & PL are known as collective planets, this bodes well for society in general, as does the UR/PL airy trine
When Venus enters Sun-ruled Leo August 25, we’ve got a prouder louder orientation toward our partnerships, but also the potential to forget about those we don’t feel are worthy of our love, respect, or attention.
And when Venus then opposes Pluto in Aquarius August 26/27, depending on your time zone, the astrological recipe changes to one of potential emotional manipulation. Emotions intensify if/when we realize we’re being forced to submit to the power of a group opposed to our individual freedoms.
However, as Uranus waxes toward its exact sextile Neptune on August 28, we’ve the opportunity to rise above—or to use--this intensity to help open our minds to higher levels of consciousness. That’s because between now and then we may begin to transform our ideals, aims, & objectives, according to Rob Hand.
“As your consciousness evolves, you will begin to associate with others whose views are similar, so that you can reinforce & strengthen each other’s insights,” he notes. The bottom line is that this particular sextile helps us rise above orthodox religion & other more mundane Saturnine-type belief systems & allows us to benefit from a more spiritual understanding of our world through metaphysics such as astrology.
This is because more rigid analyses of the world will not suffice now. And this jibes as well with the yod formed at this Virgo New Moon whose outlet point is the 9th H (under expansive Jupiter’s natural rulership) in Neptune-ruled Pisces, which includes the expansion of collective empathy.
