Episode Seventy Three-It (Part One)

Episode Seventy Three-It (Part One)

In 1986, the master of horror released the novel worthy of his title. This novel reflected many of the themes, characters, and story beats that he had introduced in his earlier novels and stands as his ultimate thesis of the horror genre. More importantly, it is the pinnacle of coming of age stories, a tale that places childhood friends at the center of a cosmic conflict, and only through the power of friendship can we overcome our fears. If that doesn't speak to Mr. King's sensibilities, I don't know what does.

Oh, and it has a scary clown!

Ladies and gentlemen, I hope that you packed your bags, because we will be spending the next month in Derry, Maine, home of Pennywise The Dancing Clown. Enjoy your stay, and keep away from the drains, the canal and the Barrens. You'll never know what you might find there. Or what might find you. . .

As endings go, this one is BLEAK! So let's debate whether bleak=good on this installment as I continue to examine the conclusions of King's books to determine whether or not he deserves his reputation for not being able to end his books. Episode Forty Eight-Christine

Episode Forty Eight-Christine

In this week's episode of the Stephen Kingcast, I examine King's first time behind the wheel of an evil car. In later years, he'll revisit the atrocities of what cars can do with entries such as From a Buick 8, Mr. Mercedes.  And in 1999, King experienced first hand the dangers of what cars can do to a person as he meets the real life version of the evil car.  But is Christine more than just a book about an evil car? Could it actually be a profound examination on the death of childhood friendships, growing up and a parent's fear of letting go? It couldn't possibly be his first great love story, could it?  Find out this week in the Stephen Kingcast!
