Ukrainian American Jurij Fedynskyj preserves ancient Ukrainian folk music traditions

Jurij Fedynskyj is a Ukrainian American composer, musician, singer-songwriter, luthier, cultural activist and teacher. His maternal grandparents came to the U.S. from Ukraine. He grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, but left the U.S. in 1998 to pursue his music education in Ukraine. Mr. Fedynskyj now lives and works with his wife and children in the village of Kryachkivka in the Poltava region of eastern Ukraine. He is the leader and producer of the Kobzar Armada and the Fedynskyj Family Singers, and also the director of "Kobzarskiy Tabir" which hosts the festival and camps in Kryachkivka. He is also actively involved in stringed-instrument making through the Poltava Kobzar Guild. In the Kobzar tradition, Jurij tours with his ensembles throughout Europe, the UK, the U.S., Canada and Ukraine.
