Ep 59: Oh, Hello Grief: Talking Loss, Healing, and Life After

After taking some time away from the microphone following the loss of my dad, I knew that returning to the podcast had to begin with an honest conversation about grief.

In this episode, I sit down with someone I deeply admire, Melissa Hudson. Melissa is a mom of three and a woman who has experienced every parent’s worst nightmare. She lost her middle child, Harrison, when he was just five months old. Melissa first approached me about doing an episode on grief when I started the podcast, and at the time I wasn’t ready. Now I realize there is no better moment than now.

Melissa is funny, vibrant, and full of life. Just like my experience losing my dad, this conversation is not only about sadness. We talk about the reality of grief, how it changes you, and how life somehow continues to move forward. And because it’s Melissa and me, there are moments of laughter too, including the kind you might feel a little guilty about but that somehow helps people survive the hardest things.

Melissa shares Harrison’s story, what grief has looked like in the years since his loss, and how she continues to carry him with her while raising her family.

I hope this episode is helpful to you now, or maybe someday in the future when you find yourself meeting grief again, or for the very first time. You may not listen to it today, and that’s okay. But I hope you keep it in your pocket and know it’s here when you need it, and that you’re not alone.
