Empowering Children Through Baby-Led Weaning with Dr. Monica Davern

Empowering Children Through Baby-Led Weaning with Dr. Monica Davern

Welcome back to the Blueberry Pediatrics Podcast, I had the pleasure of chatting with the amazing Dr. Monica Davern. Dr. Monica is a vegan pediatrician and plant-based boy mom living in Denver, CO. She created Mighty Roots, an online resource for parents with kids of all ages interested in improving health and wellness through food and family connection. As an advocate for prevention and childhood wellness, Dr. Davern helps families find better health through plant-based nutrition and joy at mealtimes. Her online program, Leafy Littles, is designed specifically for busy families interested in getting more plants on the plate with fewer power struggles. All of her resources can be found at MightyRoots.org, and she is also active on Instagram @mighty.roots. Dr. Davern brings her extensive knowledge and personal experience to the conversation, providing practical tips for parents on navigating baby-led weaning, introducing allergens, and fostering healthy eating habits in children. She's not just a brilliant vegan pediatrician but also a mom who understands the daily challenges of getting kids to eat healthy

In the episode we delve into the benefits of baby-led weaning, emphasizing the importance of allowing children to take charge of their eating habits to promote independence and healthy mealtime dynamics. She discusses critical distinctions between gagging and choking, strategies for introducing solids and allergens, and methods to prevent picky eating. By reintroducing foods multiple times and incorporating a variety of plant-based options, parents can create a healthy food environment that supports children's nutrition and development.

Listen in and pair with Blueberry Pediatrics to save your family time and money and, most importantly, equip you to respond to essential health circumstances!
