OpenAI DevDay 2025: Agent Kit, GPT-5 Codex, and the Six Billion Tokens Per Minute Infrastructure War

Join us as we explore the major advancements unveiled at OpenAI’s DevDay 2025 conference in San Francisco. This episode focuses on the introduction of the Agent Kit and significant updates to the Codex model.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced the Agent Kit, a new suite of tools designed to help developers and enterprises create artificial intelligence (AI) agents, guiding them from prototype stages all the way to production.

The Agent Kit provides core capabilities essential for development:

  • An Agent builder for testing and creating agent logic.
  • Chatkit for embedding customisable chat interfaces.
  • Evals for agents, which measures performance and helps developers understand agent behavior through trace grading.

Trace grading is defined as the process used to analyze and evaluate the step-by-step decision-making process of an AI agent. The kit is built upon OpenAI’s existing Responses API and integrates with OpenAI’s Connectors Registry, allowing agents to safely connect with company tools and other applications through an admin dashboard. Furthermore, developers can leverage built-in tools to make their prompts more effective.

We also cover the new coding features introduced via an updated version of Codex, which is now trained from the GPT-5 family of models. Per the latest updates, Codex is optimized for agentic coding workflows and can adjust its thinking time based on the complexity of the task at hand. Since its initial release, Codex has already processed over 40 trillion tokens.

Finally, we discuss the impressive growth metrics revealed at DevDay, including the doubling of developers using OpenAI’s tools to 4 million, and the massive increase in API usage from 300 million tokens per minute to 6 billion. We also highlight the new integrated applications that can run directly inside the chatbot, such as Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Expedia, Figma, Spotify, and Zillow.
