Truth Wanted 07.02 01-12-2024 with ObjectivelyDan and Sydney Davis Jr Jr

In today’s episode of the Truth Wanted, Objectively Dan and Sydney David Jr Jr work through ways to overcome homophobia and number obsessions while wrestling with prophecies and conspiracy theories.

Alfonso in WA is trying to overcome the icky feeling he gets when he sees two men kissing. Our feelings of other people have nothing to do with how we should treat them. People feel grossed out when seeing anyone kissing, regardless of the genders, because they did not give consent to see this in public. The status quo in many places used to be homophobic where men and women had specific roles. Alfonso mentions that hopefully the transition that is happening now will mean these conversations happen less. How will the private actions of others negatively affect your life? How does two men holding hands in the store translate to telling others they also must marry the same gender? It is too easy to do what everyone else is doing in a small town and you must separate yourself if you want to make a change.

Killgoretrout in TX asks about the waxing and waning of conspiracy theories. These things will get into people’s consciousness and then they get bored of it. It might be that people realize there are bigger problems, or see the debunking of the once popular theories. The less you argue about something, the less they will want to talk about it.

Johnny in MD wants to discuss his obsession with The Theory of Everything and how kids are being taught math. Is this a thought pattern that feels like it is something that you can’t control? What are some things that help with this and distract you from these thoughts? Remember that people can have unorthodox beliefs and still be mentally sound. Therapists can be like trying on shoes; not all will fit or match your needs. What are some other things you can explore and get into that will not occupy your thoughts all the time? It is fantastic that you are being open about your emotional struggles and pursuing the help that you need.

The Lord’s Day Ministry wants to prove that the branch that the Old Testament talks about is Jesus Christ because god gave him a revelation. How do you know this revelation is from god? What is the difference between your brain telling you something and receiving a message from god? Revelations from god seem to be a common theme in history. How do you explain the contradictions between these revelations and how do we know which ones are true? Why should we care about what the scriptures say, and how do we know if the scriptures are true? Millions of people are not liars; they have been convinced that these things are true and genuinely believe them. If Joseph Smith predicted the Civil War, does that mean everything else he prophesied is true? Why should prophecy be used to know if something is true? How do we know that the Gospels were not just fan fiction? What is the best way to demonstrate the scriptures support the truth and why is Christianity better than the others?
