The Duggars & IBLB - The Psychology of the Men at the Center

The Duggars & IBLB - The Psychology of the Men at the Center

One Duggar brother is in federal prison. Another was arrested on charges he allegedly admitted to twice — once to a father, once to law enforcement. Their father has been aware of abuse inside his own family since 2002 and has faced zero legal consequences. A federal judge has already placed his finding about Jim Bob Duggar's sworn testimony on the public record: not credible.

In Part 2 of Hidden Killers' three-part interview series, Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke sit down with psychotherapist Shavaun Scott — thirty years working with perpetrators of violence across forensic mental health programs, domestic violence settings, and private practice — to examine the psychology of the men at the center of this story.

What does Josh Duggar's documented pattern look like to a clinician who has spent decades in this field? What does Joseph's alleged admission — and his reported apology to the girl at the time — reveal about how he processed what he did? What is Jim Bob Duggar doing, psychologically, when he chooses church counseling over law enforcement twice across two decades — and then claims under oath he cannot remember any of it?

What does the clinical research actually show about what happens to individuals who cause harm and receive faith-based handling instead of evidence-based treatment? And what does the sustained, complete absence of real consequences do to someone over time?

This is Part 2 of 3.
