Duggar Children: The People Who Were Supposed to Protect Them Didn't

Duggar Children: The People Who Were Supposed to Protect Them Didn't

The Duggar family built a public identity on the promise that they put their children above everything else. Large family. Deep faith. Clear values. All of it televised as a model worth watching.

And then the things actually happening inside that model kept coming out. Josh Duggar abused family members while the family managed it internally and kept it from law enforcement. Josh Duggar again, convicted on federal charges involving child sexual abuse material, now serving twelve and a half years in prison. Joseph Duggar, arrested and accused of molesting a then-9-year-old girl during a 2020 family vacation in Florida — incidents he allegedly admitted to, first to the victim's father, then to detectives. He faces felony charges in Florida. He and Kendra have both been separately charged in Arkansas with child endangerment and false imprisonment. Their four children — the oldest seven, the youngest around three — are now at the center of this.

The question one listener asked that I haven't been able to set aside: did the victims — across all of this, spanning years and multiple incidents — ever receive a real apology? Not a public statement. Not a lawyer's carefully worded release. An actual, private, human moment where someone looked them in the eye and said it and meant it.

Has anyone in this family ever done that for the people who were harmed?

Today, retired FBI Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program Chief Robin Dreeke joins me to go through your listener questions. Many of them aren't about procedure or charges — they're about the people. The kids who grew up in that house. The victims who are still living inside what happened. And the children of Joseph and Kendra who didn't choose any of this and are now caught in the middle of it.

Someone needed to choose them first. We're going to talk about why that didn't happen.
