Michelle Duggar: The Mother Who Knew and Kept Building

She didn't look the other way once. She reportedly looked the other way for over twenty years — and built a television empire, a public ministry, and a family brand on top of what she knew.

Michelle Duggar reportedly learned about Josh abusing her own daughters as early as 2002. She and Jim Bob reportedly sent him to manual labor for a family friend instead of treatment. Weeks after he came home, she wrote a national magazine article celebrating her family. Then the cameras showed up. A decade of television followed — selling the world on a lie while her other children watched their mother hold the performance together.

Josh was convicted in federal court. Michelle wrote the judge asking for leniency. And according to Jim Holt — a former Arkansas state senator whose daughter Kaeleigh was being courted by Josh at the time — Michelle allegedly told the Holts the family wasn't going to disclose Josh's history at all. Holt says the plan was for Josh to confess to Kaeleigh after they were already married. Holt confronted Jim Bob, who reportedly confirmed they were using his daughter as incentive for Josh's behavior.

Now Joseph, 31, faces Florida charges of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under twelve. He allegedly admitted to it twice. Kendra faces eight misdemeanor charges. Their four children have been removed. Investigators reportedly found locks on the outside of the children's bedroom doors — the same practice from a generation earlier. And Michelle released a three-sentence statement through a spokesperson. Days after the arrest.
