The Amazon Adventures

The Amazon Adventures

In the 1980's, a simple magazine article would change everything for a Wisconsin angler named Joe Wing. After reading about Peacock bass fishing in the Amazon he picked up the phone and called the man behind the story- and a few months later, he was headed deep into South America. What followed were years of raw, unfiltered adventure across remote rivers in places like Venezuela, Brazil and Peru- long before GPS, Cell Phones, or modern travel infrastructure existed.

This episode dives into a time when exploring the Amazon meant real risk. From close calls in the jungle to navigating unfamiliar cultures and unseen dangers, Joe's story is a reminder that the greatest adventures often come with the highest stakes. We also take a closer look at how travel has changed since then, and what the U.S. Department of State says about traveling abroad today, including why preparation, awareness, and trusting your instincts matter more than ever. This isn't just a fishing story, it's a story about adventure, risk, and answering a call that most people would ignore.
