Celeste Rivas Hernandez was from Lake Elsinore. Her parents immigrated from El Salvador. She was reported missing three separate times in the final year of her life. And the connection that allegedly pulled her into David Anthony Burke's world was visible for years. Discord messages dating to 2022. Twitch livestreams. Photos near her home. Backstage at his concerts. Matching tattoos. A girl reported missing three separate times who kept showing up in the same orbit. And nobody with authority intervened.

Twelve days before prosecutors say Celeste walked into that Hollywood Hills home for the last time, Burke was on stage at Coachella doing backflips. His album was dropping. The career was accelerating. According to prosecutors, that career is exactly what he was allegedly protecting — and a fourteen-year-old girl was allegedly treated as a threat to it.

Burke has been charged with first-degree murder with three special circumstances, continuous sexual abuse of a child under fourteen, and mutilation of remains. He has pleaded not guilty. His attorneys say the evidence will show he did not cause Celeste's death. The death penalty is a possibility. Prosecutors allege Celeste was killed because she threatened to expose Burke's conduct. Her dismembered remains were found months later in the trunk of his Tesla — a car that had been sitting abandoned on a residential street before it was towed.
