Getting Back on Track - by Edward Ryan

Getting Back on Track - by Edward Ryan

Do you travel by train? There’s a very good chance you do. Whether that’s getting the DART for a night on the town, or commuting from Thurles for college every day. Odds are, you’ve passed some closed stations. Or maybe you’ve seen that photo showing all the railway lines that have closed in the last 100 years. Ireland once had a comprehensive railway network. Today, however, despite record passenger numbers, trains are often slow, overcrowded, or delayed. But there is a plan to change that. The All-Island Strategic Rail Review offers a vision of a better network, but what is being done to get us there? In this audio documentary I speak to those advocating for a better railway network, visit one of the towns on a closed line, speak to Green Party transport spokesperson Feljin Jose, and ask the Department of Transport how Ireland is Getting Back on Track. #railways #irishrail #infrastructure #ireland #transport #journalism Music Credits from Pixabay: Mondamusic Atlasaudio Ales Besss Lexin Music The Mountain Paulyudin Abydos Juliush
