The Upstairs Neighbors Moved Out… So Who Was Up There? | After Midnight

At first, the footsteps upstairs sounded like exactly what you’d expect in an old apartment building. Angry neighbors pacing during late-night arguments. Furniture moving overhead. Somebody stomping around because the fighting downstairs had gotten too loud again.

Then the upstairs tenants moved out. The noise didn’t.

What started as ordinary apartment sounds slowly turned into something impossible to explain. Running echoed through the empty apartment whenever his parents screamed at each other. Crashes shook the ceiling in rooms where no one lived. And every time someone worked up the courage to go upstairs and confront whoever was making the noise… the apartment was dark, silent, and completely vacant.

But years later, one final conversation with the landlord revealed the part of the story that still haunts him most.

Because the tenants upstairs had spent years complaining about hearing the exact same things coming from the apartment below them.
