Calm Senses Series Ep. 2 - Grounding with Your Feet

Calm Senses Series Ep. 2 - Grounding with Your Feet

Helping the body feel steady through the feet

In this episode, children practise grounding by noticing and pressing their feet into the floor.

Connecting the feet with the ground can help children feel stable, balanced, and present in their bodies, especially when energy feels busy or overwhelming.

Children explore simple movements such as pressing their feet down, rocking forward and back, lifting their heels, or wiggling their toes while noticing the support of the ground beneath them.

Grounding through the feet is a powerful way to help the body settle and organise sensory input.

Parent & Teacher Notes

This activity supports proprioceptive awareness through the legs and feet, which can help children regulate their nervous systems.

Children may:

• press firmly or softly• rock or sway• wiggle their toes• lift heels or stomp gently• simply notice their feet touching the ground

All variations are appropriate.

This activity works well:

• during classroom transitions• after recess or lunch• when children feel restless or overstimulated• before quiet learning activities
